撰寫一本書好像是個人的事，但實際上它的每一個階段都是集眾人之力而成。我要感謝在撰寫本書過程中所有幫助過我的人。

首先，感謝在不同神學院修過我以本書內容為教材的箴言課程的學生。最近，我教授過箴言這門課的神學院包括韋斯敏特神學院（Westminster Theological Seminary）、富勒神學院（Fuller Theological Seminary）、加拿大神學院（Canadian Theological Seminary）。

Chinese Preface

It is a privilege to be able to write a special preface for the Chinese publication of How to Read Proverbs. Over the years, particularly as I have taught at Westminster Theological Seminary as a resident (1981–1998) and a visiting professor (1998–present), I have had many wonderful Chinese students from various parts of Asia who are presently back in their home countries ministering diligently and with great skill, thanks to God’s blessing. I have also had the wonderful opportunity of teaching in different parts of Asia over the years and hope to have even more occasions to do so.

The book of Proverbs is a book of wisdom, but not just human wisdom, this wisdom comes “from heaven” (James 3:17). In this book, we learn how to act and speak in a way that is not only pleasing to God but also helps us get along in the world. But the most important aspect of the teaching of Proverbs is not practical, it is theological. Proverbs tells us that wisdom begins with the “fear ...
