I affectionately dedicate this volume to the adult class, ‘A Grace Gathering,’ that it is my privilege to teach at Stonebriar Community Church, Frisco, Texas.
This comes with the prayer that our fellowship in Jesus Christ may continue to be rich as we seek to conform to the truth of the apostle’s teachings, grow in devotedness to the object of our affections, express it in love for others, and echo His message together throughout the world.
May our love for God increase.
May our knowledge of God deepen.
May our hearts with care for others enlarge.
May our passion to speak of Christ burn within us.
May God allow us to walk together in truth and love.
May we learn each day more of the love that God has for us.
May the atoning Lord both delight and humble us.
May the Spirit of God guide and nourish us.
May the beauty of God ravish our souls.
May we think much of His coming.
May we live together in hope.
Throughout the commentary, the author has provided
individual application questions for personal reflection.
At the close of the commentary, there are Group Study
Questions for Bible Study Groups.
As I think about approaching the Holy Scriptures with the intent of writing an explanatory synopsis of John’s letters, I do so with a degree of fear as well as delight. To read it seriously is to come into the presence of God, an experience that transcends the collectivity of all ...
About 1, 2 and 3 John: Redemption’s CertaintyJohn is known as “the disciple whom Jesus loved.” He was under our Savior’s teaching and care for three years. He leaned against Christ’s chest at the last supper and witnessed the crucifixion. Who better then to write about the love of Jesus than the one who had such first-hand experience of it? In these three letters, John is passing on the impact of these experiences to people he loves, tenderly encouraging them to see past their failings and focus on the promises available in Christ. |
