Intro
Welcome to Daily Treasures from the Word of God. Today’s reading is Genesis 1 through 4. Our lesson is from Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (NASU)
Lesson
The first thing to note is that the Bible unequivocally declares the existence of God as the only Creator. There is a distinction between the Creator and the physical realm. Having stated this, there are other observations that can be added to Genesis 1:1.
Next, matter is created and not eternal. There are persons who teach that matter is eternal. Not so. Day and night were made by God. The heavens and the earth were made by Him. The earth and the seas were made by Divine declaration. The celestial bodies, life in the seas, in the air and on the earth were all authored by Him. Humanity is the culmination of God’s creative power. After all was finished, God saw that everything He had made was good.
Third, we notice that atheism is not true. The Bible affirms from the first words the existence of God. God is the reality that gives humanity its identity and reason for being.
Next, the belief in many gods is contrary to the Bible. All other gods are false. The God of the Bible is not one more god that should be added to the already existing pantheon of many gods as some religions teach.
Fifth, we see that pantheism is not true. There are those who believe that everything is God. There is no difference between a rock, a fish, a star or God. In other words, creation is part of the divine being. We notice this trend of thought in the New Age and certain eastern religions.
Sixth, there are those who think that God may exist but that a person cannot know Him. The God of the Bible is a God who is accessible; He created humans in His image and likeness. He communicates with His created beings.
Finally, there are those who think that everything is determined by an impersonal force. There is nothing further from the biblical truth. The Lord had a relationship with Adam and Eve, for they are the crowning glory of His creation. Humanity was created to find its destiny in a relationship with the Creator.
In conclusion, God had a relationship with humanity from the beginning. The relationship was altered because of humanity’s disobedience through Adam and Eve. However, God’s continued love and care is demonstrated through His covenant and commitment to humanity which is fulfilled by the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Truly the Creator loves and cares for humanity. As we embark on our daily studies, may the Bible help you mature in your relationship with the true God and His Son Jesus Christ. Shalom!
