The impetus for this work has come largely from interacting with students for nearly fifty years in the classroom and outside it about issues pertaining to the Bible—its origins, development, character, authority, and meaning. An outflow of intense engagement with these budding scholars in an attempt to deal with their concerns has sharpened my own sense of curiosity, reflection, and research. I therefore dedicate my portion of this project to these committed servants of Christ and students of His word.
