About Christ in the Old Testament

Many of the most picturesque images of Jesus Christ are those that are found—sometimes seemingly buried—in the Old Testament. Jesus emphasized this point with two of His disciples as they walked and talked together on the road to Emmaus. “Beginning at Moses and all the prophets, He expounded unto them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself” (Luke 24:27).

Using this teaching model of Jesus Himself, Charles Spurgeon, the “prince of preachers,” here offers 60 studies revealing Jesus Christ in the teachings, testimonies, and types of the Old Testament. These are organized into three groups: the historical group, in which Christ is compared to key historical figures of the Old Testament; the ceremonial group, in which Christ is proven to be the fulfillment of Old Testament ceremonies and rituals; and the prophetical group, in which Christ is magnified as the promised Messiah.

Drawing on the clear and direct revelation of the New Testament, Spurgeon uncovers the thorough and systematic way in which the life and ministry of Christ fulfills His integral and eternal role in the redemptive plan of God.
