To the memory of Ruth Hill Munce (1898–2001).

We hereby express our gratitude for the life and

ministry of this woman, at whose suggestion the

concept of the original edition of the Pilgrim

Study Bible came to be. It was under her

direction, and with her invaluable contributions

as an editor, that after ten years the project was

published in 1948.

Introduction

The New Pilgrim Bible is an updated and enhanced edition of the original work first released in 1948. It continues to reflect the intent of the original editors and contributors: to create a study Bible with a doctrinal emphasis similar to that of The Scofield© Study Bible, and one that would be appreciated and used by students.

The original editors held to the “dispensational viewpoint” in the interpretation of Scripture. Although they recognized that this viewpoint may be criticized by those who do not hold this view, they were convinced that when a person has a clear understanding of God’s program through the ages, and appreciates the clear distinction between His various dealings with mankind in the different dispensations, the Bible opens up in a new way so that it delineates a clear picture as to the holiness, the justice, the mercy, the love, and the grace of God to sinful men and women, through God’s Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.
