Psalm 4

A Night Prayer

For the choir director: with stringed instruments. k A Davidic psalm.

Answer me when I call,

God, who vindicates me. l m

You freed me from affliction; n

be gracious to me and hear my prayer.

How long, exalted men, will my honor be insulted? o

How long will you love what is worthless p

and pursue a lie? * Selah

Know that the Lord has set apart

the faithful for Himself;

the Lord will hear when I call to Him.

Be angry q and do not sin; r

on your bed, reflect in your heart and be still. s Selah

Offer sacrifices in righteousness t u

and trust in the Lord. v

Many are saying, “Who can show us anything good?”

Look on us with favor, Lord. w

You have put more joy in my heart

than they have when their grain and new wine abound. x

I will both lie down and sleep in peace, y

for You alone, Lord, make me live in safety. z

About The Holman Christian Standard Bible

The complete Holman Christian Standard Bible® is now available for the first time ever! More than fifteen years in the making, crafted by the shared expertise of nearly a hundred conservative scholars and English stylists, the Holman CSB® sets the standard in painstaking biblical accuracy and pure literary form.

Accurate, yet highly readable, it's a translation committed to leaving both the grace and gravity of the original languages intact while carefully creating a smooth flow of wording for the reader.

Stylistically, this inaugural edition contributes to the clarity of the written Word, arranging the poetic portions of the Scripture into complete lines of thought, and revering God's presence on each page by capitalizing all the pronouns that refer to Him.
