appears that Hosea singled out the shrine at Adam not because of some peculiarity about the town, but because of its namesake. The prophet has made a pun on the name of the town and the name of the original transgressor. His meaning is, “Like Adam (the man) they break covenants; they are faithless to me there (in the town of Adam).” 6:8 Gilead was in the Transjordan region and was famous for a number of incidents in the Bible. Laban caught up with Jacob there and accused him of treachery (Gen 31:25–26).
