This justification here occurs when God grants mercy to the “poor” sinner who has requested it. For Luke, in contrast to Paul, the connection of justification to sincere repentance, realized by the tax collector, remains decisive. In another way Acts 13:38f. can be understood as a reminiscence of the Pauline thesis of justification by faith, not by law. The
