Psalm 12:1–4 — The New International Version (NIV)

Help, Lord, for no one is faithful anymore;

those who are loyal have vanished from the human race.

Everyone lies to their neighbor;

they flatter with their lips

but harbor deception in their hearts.

May the Lord silence all flattering lips

and every boastful tongue—

those who say,

“By our tongues we will prevail;

our own lips will defend us—who is lord over us?”

Psalm 12:1–4 — English Standard Version (ESV)

Save, O Lord, for the godly one is gone;

for the faithful have vanished from among the children of man.

Everyone utters lies to his neighbor;

with flattering lips and a double heart they speak.

May the Lord cut off all flattering lips,

the tongue that makes great boasts,

those who say, “With our tongue we will prevail,

our lips are with us; who is master over us?”

Psalm 12:1–4 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

Help, Lord; for the godly man ceaseth;

For the faithful fail from among the children of men.

They speak vanity every one with his neighbour:

With flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.

The Lord shall cut off all flattering lips,

And the tongue that speaketh proud things:

Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail;

Our lips are our own: who is lord over us?

Psalm 12:1–4 — New Living Translation (NLT)

Help, O Lord, for the godly are fast disappearing!

The faithful have vanished from the earth!

Neighbors lie to each other,

speaking with flattering lips and deceitful hearts.

May the Lord cut off their flattering lips

and silence their boastful tongues.

They say, “We will lie to our hearts’ content.

Our lips are our own—who can stop us?”

Psalm 12:1–4 — New Century Version (NCV)

Save me, Lord, because the good people are all gone;

no true believers are left on earth.

Everyone lies to his neighbors;

they say one thing and mean another.

The Lord will stop those flattering lips

and cut off those bragging tongues.

They say, “Our tongues will help us win.

We can say what we wish; no one is our master.”

Psalm 12:1–4 — American Standard Version (ASV)

Help, Jehovah; for the godly man ceaseth;

For the faithful fail from among the children of men.

They speak falsehood every one with his neighbor:

With flattering lip, and with a double heart, do they speak.

Jehovah will cut off all flattering lips,

The tongue that speaketh great things;

Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail;

Our lips are our own: who is lord over us?

Psalm 12:1–4 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

Save, Jehovah, for the godly man is gone; for the faithful have failed from among the children of men. They speak falsehood every one with his neighbour: with flattering lip, with a double heart, do they speak. Jehovah will cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that speaketh proud things, Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail, our lips are our own: who is lord over us?

Psalm 12:1–4 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

Help, O Lord

No godly person is left.

Faithful people have vanished from among Adam’s descendants!

All people speak foolishly.

They speak with flattering lips. They say one thing but mean another.

May the Lord cut off every flattering lip

and every bragging tongue

that has said,

“We will overcome with our tongues.

With lips such as ours, who can be our master?”

Psalm 12:1–4 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Help, Lord, for no faithful one remains;

the loyal have disappeared from the human race.

They lie to one another;

they speak with flattering lips and deceptive hearts.

May the Lord cut off all flattering lips

and the tongue that speaks boastfully.

They say, “Through our tongues we have power;

our lips are our own—who can be our master?”

Psalm 12:1–4 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

Help, O Lord, for there is no longer anyone who is godly;

the faithful have disappeared from humankind.

They utter lies to each other;

with flattering lips and a double heart they speak.

May the Lord cut off all flattering lips,

the tongue that makes great boasts,

those who say, “With our tongues we will prevail;

our lips are our own—who is our master?”

Psalm 12:1–4 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

Save, O Yahweh, for the pious have ceased to be;

for the faithful have vanished

from among the children of humankind.

They speak falseness to each other.

With flattering lips,

with a double heart they speak.

May Yahweh cut off all flattering lips,

the tongue speaking great boasts—

those who say, “With our tongue we will prevail.

Our lips are on our side.

Who is master over us?”

Psalm 12:1–4 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

Help, Lord! Those who do what is right are gone.

Those who are faithful have disappeared from the earth.

Everyone tells lies to his neighbors.

With his lips he praises others, but he doesn’t really mean it.

May the Lord cut off all lips that don’t mean what they say.

May he cut out every tongue that brags.

They say, “We will win the battle with our tongues.

Our lips belong to us. No one else is in charge of us.”

Psalm 12:1–4 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

Help, Lord, for the godly man ceases to be,

For the faithful disappear from among the sons of men.

They speak falsehood to one another;

With flattering lips and with a double heart they speak.

May the Lord cut off all flattering lips,

The tongue that speaks great things;

Who have said, “With our tongue we will prevail;

Our lips are our own; who is lord over us?”
