lKeep your foot from their path;

16 mFor their feet run to evil,

And they make haste to shed blood.

17 Surely, in 6vain the net is spread

In the sight of any 7bird;

18 But they lie in wait for their own blood,

They lurk secretly for their own lives.

Proverbs 1:15–18 — The New International Version (NIV)

15 my son, do not go along with them,

do not set foot on their paths;

16 for their feet rush into evil,

they are swift to shed blood.

17 How useless to spread a net

where every bird can see it!

18 These men lie in wait for their own blood;

they ambush only themselves!

Proverbs 1:15–18 — English Standard Version (ESV)

15 my son, do not walk in the way with them;

hold back your foot from their paths,

16 for their feet run to evil,

and they make haste to shed blood.

17 For in vain is a net spread

in the sight of any bird,

18 but these men lie in wait for their own blood;

they set an ambush for their own lives.

Proverbs 1:15–18 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them;

Refrain thy foot from their path:

16 For their feet run to evil,

And make haste to shed blood.

17 Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.

18 And they lay wait for their own blood;

They lurk privily for their own lives.

Proverbs 1:15–18 — New Living Translation (NLT)

15 My child, don’t go along with them!

Stay far away from their paths.

16 They rush to commit evil deeds.

They hurry to commit murder.

17 If a bird sees a trap being set,

it knows to stay away.

18 But these people set an ambush for themselves;

they are trying to get themselves killed.

Proverbs 1:15–18 — New Century Version (NCV)

15 My child, do not go along with them;

do not do what they do.

16 They are eager to do evil

and are quick to kill.

17 It is useless to spread out a net

right where the birds can see it.

18 But sinners will fall into their own traps;

they will only catch themselves!

Proverbs 1:15–18 — American Standard Version (ASV)

15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them;

Refrain thy foot from their path:

16 For their feet run to evil,

And they make haste to shed blood.

17 For in vain is the net spread

In the sight of any bird:

18 And these lay wait for their own blood;

They lurk privily for their own lives.

Proverbs 1:15–18 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

15 —my son, walk not in the way with them, keep back thy foot from their path; 16 for their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed blood. 17 For in vain the net is spread in the sight of anything which hath wings. 18 And these lay wait for their own blood; they lurk secretly for their own lives.

Proverbs 1:15–18 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

15 My son,

do not follow them in their way.

Do not even set foot on their path,

16 because they rush to do evil

and hurry to shed blood.

17 It does no good to spread a net

within the sight of any bird.

18 But these people set an ambush for their own murder.

They go into hiding only to lose their lives.

Proverbs 1:15–18 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

15 my son, don’t travel that road with them

or set foot on their path,

16 because their feet run toward trouble

and they hurry to commit murder.

17 It is foolish to spread a net

where any bird can see it,

18 but they set an ambush to kill themselves;

they attack their own lives.

Proverbs 1:15–18 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

15 my child, do not walk in their way,

keep your foot from their paths;

16 for their feet run to evil,

and they hurry to shed blood.

17 For in vain is the net baited

while the bird is looking on;

18 yet they lie in wait—to kill themselves!

and set an ambush—for their own lives!

Proverbs 1:15–18 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

15 My child, do not walk in their way.

Keep your foot from their paths,

16 for their feet run to evil,

and they hurry to shed blood,

17 for “in vain is the net scattered,

in the sight of any winged bird.”

18 They lie in wait for their own blood.

They ambush their own lives.

Proverbs 1:15–18 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

15 My son, don’t go along with them.

Don’t even set your feet on their paths.

16 They are always in a hurry to sin.

They are quick to spill someone’s blood.

17 How useless it is to spread a net

while all the birds are watching!

18 Those who hide and wait will spill their own blood.

They will be caught in their own trap.

Proverbs 1:15–18 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

15 My son, do not walk in the way with them.

Keep your feet from their path,

16 For their feet run to evil

And they hasten to shed blood.

17 Indeed, it is useless to spread the baited net

In the sight of any bird;

18 But they lie in wait for their own blood;

They ambush their own lives.
