Matthew 7:20–24 — The New International Version (NIV)

20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

21 Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day,Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly,I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

24 Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

Matthew 7:20–24 — English Standard Version (ESV)

20 Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.

21 Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them,I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

24 Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

Matthew 7:20–24 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

Matthew 7:20–24 — New Living Translation (NLT)

20 Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.

21 Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. 22 On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ 23 But I will reply,I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’

24 Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.

Matthew 7:20–24 — New Century Version (NCV)

20 In the same way, you will know these false prophets by what they do.

21 Not all those who sayYou are our Lordwill enter the kingdom of heaven. The only people who will enter the kingdom of heaven are those who do what my Father in heaven wants. 22 On the last day many people will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, we spoke for you, and through you we forced out demons and did many miracles.’ 23 Then I will tell them clearly,Get away from me, you who do evil. I never knew you.’

24 Everyone who hears my words and obeys them is like a wise man who built his house on rock.

Matthew 7:20–24 — American Standard Version (ASV)

20 Therefore by their fruits ye shall know them. 21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy by thy name, and by thy name cast out demons, and by thy name do many mighty works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

24 Every one therefore that heareth these words of mine, and doeth them, shall be likened unto a wise man, who built his house upon the rock:

Matthew 7:20–24 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

20 By their fruits then surely ye shall know them.

21 Not every one who says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but he that does the will of my Father who is in the heavens. 22 Many shall say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied through thy name, and through thy name cast out demons, and through thy name done many works of power? 23 and then will I avow unto them, I never knew you. Depart from me, workers of lawlessness. 24 Whoever therefore hears these my words and does them, I will liken him to a prudent man, who built his house upon the rock;

Matthew 7:20–24 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

20 So you will know them by what they produce.

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord!’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the person who does what my Father in heaven wants. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name? Didn’t we force out demons and do many miracles by the power and authority of your name?’ 23 Then I will tell them publicly, ‘I’ve never known you. Get away from me, you evil people.’

24 “Therefore, everyone who hears what I say and obeys it will be like a wise person who built a house on rock.

Matthew 7:20–24 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

20 So you’ll recognize them by their fruit.

21 Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord!’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to Me, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in Your name, drive out demons in Your name, and do many miracles in Your name?’ 23 Then I will announce to them, ‘I never knew you! Depart from Me, you lawbreakers!

24 Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them will be like a sensible man who built his house on the rock.

Matthew 7:20–24 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

20 Thus you will know them by their fruits.

21 Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many deeds of power in your name?’ 23 Then I will declare to them, I never knew you; go away from me, you evildoers.’

24 Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock.

Matthew 7:20–24 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

20 As a result, you will recognize them by their fruits.

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many miracles in your name?’ 23 And then I will say to them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you who practice lawlessness!’

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

Matthew 7:20–24 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

20 You can tell each tree by its fruit.

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven. Only those who do what my Father in heaven wants will enter.

22 “Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord! Lord! Didn’t we prophesy in your name? Didn’t we drive out demons in your name? Didn’t we do many miracles in your name?’ 23 Then I will tell them clearly, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who do evil!’

24 “So then, everyone who hears my words and puts them into practice is like a wise man. He builds his house on the rock.

Matthew 7:20–24 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

20 So then, you will know them by their fruits.

21 Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.

22 Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’

23 And then I will declare to them,I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’

24 Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock.
