Luke 22:24–26 — The New International Version (NIV)

24 A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest. 25 Jesus said to them, The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. 26 But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves.

Luke 22:24–26 — English Standard Version (ESV)

24 A dispute also arose among them, as to which of them was to be regarded as the greatest. 25 And he said to them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those in authority over them are called benefactors. 26 But not so with you. Rather, let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves.

Luke 22:24–26 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

24 And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest. 25 And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors. 26 But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.

Luke 22:24–26 — New Living Translation (NLT)

24 Then they began to argue among themselves about who would be the greatest among them. 25 Jesus told them, In this world the kings and great men lord it over their people, yet they are calledfriends of the people.’ 26 But among you it will be different. Those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant.

Luke 22:24–26 — New Century Version (NCV)

24 The apostles also began to argue about which one of them was the most important. 25 But Jesus said to them, “The kings of the non-Jewish people rule over them, and those who have authority over others like to be called ‘friends of the people.’ 26 But you must not be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the leader should be like the servant.

Luke 22:24–26 — American Standard Version (ASV)

24 And there arose also a contention among them, which of them was accounted to be greatest. 25 And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles have lordship over them; and they that have authority over them are called Benefactors. 26 But ye shall not be so: but he that is the greater among you, let him become as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.

Luke 22:24–26 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

24 And there was also a strife among them which of them should be held to be the greatest. 25 And he said to them, The kings of the nations rule over them, and they that exercise authority over them are called benefactors. 26 But ye shall not be thus; but let the greater among you be as the younger, and the leader as he that serves.

Luke 22:24–26 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

24 Then a quarrel broke out among the disciples. They argued about who should be considered the greatest.

25 Jesus said to them, “The kings of nations have power over their people, and those in authority call themselves friends of the people. 26 But you’re not going to be that way! Rather, the greatest among you must be like the youngest, and your leader must be like a servant.

Luke 22:24–26 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

24 Then a dispute also arose among them about who should be considered the greatest. 25 But He said to them, The kings of the Gentiles dominate them, and those who have authority over them are called Benefactors.’ 26 But it must not be like that among you. On the contrary, whoever is greatest among you must become like the youngest, and whoever leads, like the one serving.

Luke 22:24–26 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

24 A dispute also arose among them as to which one of them was to be regarded as the greatest. 25 But he said to them, The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those in authority over them are called benefactors. 26 But not so with you; rather the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like one who serves.

Luke 22:24–26 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

24 And a dispute also occurred among them as to which of them was recognized as being greatest. 25 So he said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who have authority over them are called benefactors. 26 But you are not to be like this! But the one who is greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the one who leads like the one who serves.

Luke 22:24–26 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

24 They also started to argue. They disagreed about which of them was thought to be the most important person.

25 Jesus said to them, “The kings of the nations hold power over their people. And those who order them around call themselves Protectors. 26 But you must not be like that. Instead, the most important among you should be like the youngest. The one who rules should be like the one who serves.

Luke 22:24–26 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

24 And there arose also a dispute among them as to which one of them was regarded to be greatest.

25 And He said to them, The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who have authority over them are calledBenefactors.’

26 But it is not this way with you, but the one who is the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like the servant.
