Luke 5:33–35

Jesus Teaches About Fasting

Matt. 9:14, 15; Mark 2:18–20

33 Then they said to Him, i“Why 6do the disciples of John fast often and make prayers, and likewise those of the Pharisees, but Yours eat and drink?”

34 And He said to them, Can you make the friends of the bridegroom fast while the jbridegroom is with them? 35 But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them; then they will fast in those days.”

Luke 5:33–35 — The New International Version (NIV)

33 They said to him, “John’s disciples often fast and pray, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours go on eating and drinking.”

34 Jesus answered, Can you make the friends of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? 35 But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; in those days they will fast.”
