Jeremiah 1:6–11

Then said I:

k“Ah, Lord God!

Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth.”

7 But the Lord said to me:

“Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’

For you shall go to all to whom I send you,

And lwhatever I command you, you shall speak.

8 mDo not be afraid of their faces,

For nI am with you to deliver you,” says the Lord.

Then the Lord put forth His hand and otouched my mouth, and the Lord said to me:

“Behold, I have pput My words in your mouth.

10 qSee, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms,

To rroot out and to pull down,

To destroy and to throw down,

To build and to plant.”

11 Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Jeremiah, what do you see?”

Jeremiah 1:6–11 — The New International Version (NIV)

“Alas, Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.”

But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord.

Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “I have put my words in your mouth. 10 See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.”

11 The word of the Lord came to me: “What do you see, Jeremiah?”

“I see the branch of an almond tree,” I replied.

I answered, “I see a stick of almond wood.”

11 Again the Lord spoke his word to me and asked, “Jeremiah, what do you see?”

11 A message came to me from the Lord. He asked me, “What do you see, Jeremiah?”
