Isaiah 65:11–14

11 “But as for you who forsake the Lord

and forget my holy mountain,

who spread a table for Fortune

and fill bowls of mixed wine for Destiny,

12 I will destine you for the sword,

and all of you will fall in the slaughter;

for I called but you did not answer,

I spoke but you did not listen.

You did evil in my sight

and chose what displeases me.”

13 Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“My servants will eat,

but you will go hungry;

my servants will drink,

but you will go thirsty;

my servants will rejoice,

but you will be put to shame.

14 My servants will sing

out of the joy of their hearts,

but you will cry out

from anguish of heart

and wail in brokenness of spirit.

11 But you who forsake the Lord,

who forget my holy mountain,

who set a table for Fortune

and fill cups of mixed wine for Destiny,

12 I will destine you to the sword,

and all of you shall bow down to the slaughter,

because, when I called, you did not answer;

when I spoke, you did not listen,

but you did what was evil in my eyes

and chose what I did not delight in.”

13 Therefore thus says the Lord God:

“Behold, my servants shall eat,

but you shall be hungry;

behold, my servants shall drink,

but you shall be thirsty;

behold, my servants shall rejoice,

but you shall be put to shame;

14 behold, my servants shall sing for gladness of heart,

but you shall cry out for pain of heart

and shall wail for breaking of spirit.

11 But ye are they that forsake the Lord,

That forget my holy mountain,

That prepare a table for that troop,

And that furnish the drink offering unto that number.

12 Therefore will I number you to the sword,

And ye shall all bow down to the slaughter:

Because when I called, ye did not answer;

When I spake, ye did not hear;

But did evil before mine eyes,

And did choose that wherein I delighted not.

13 Therefore thus saith the Lord God,

Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry:

Behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty:

Behold, my servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be ashamed:

14 Behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart,

But ye shall cry for sorrow of heart,

And shall howl for vexation of spirit.

11 “But because the rest of you have forsaken the Lord

and have forgotten his Temple,

and because you have prepared feasts to honor the god of Fate

and have offered mixed wine to the god of Destiny,

12 now I will ‘destine’ you for the sword.

All of you will bow down before the executioner.

For when I called, you did not answer.

When I spoke, you did not listen.

You deliberately sinned—before my very eyes—

and chose to do what you know I despise.”

13 Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“My servants will eat,

but you will starve.

My servants will drink,

but you will be thirsty.

My servants will rejoice,

but you will be sad and ashamed.

14 My servants will sing for joy,

but you will cry in sorrow and despair.

11 “But as for you who left the Lord,

who forgot about my holy mountain,

who worship the god Luck,

who hold religious feasts for the god Fate,

12 I decide your fate, and I will punish you with my sword.

You will all be killed,

because I called you, but you refused to answer.

I spoke to you, but you wouldn’t listen.

You did the things I said were evil

and chose to do things that displease me.”

13 So this is what the Lord God says:

“My servants will eat,

but you evil people will be hungry.

My servants will drink,

but you evil people will be thirsty.

My servants will be happy,

but you evil people will be shamed.

14 My servants will shout for joy

because of the goodness of their hearts,

but you evil people will cry,

because you will be sad.

You will cry loudly, because your spirits will be broken.

11 But ye that forsake Jehovah, that forget my holy mountain, that prepare a table for Fortune, and that fill up mingled wine unto Destiny; 12 I will destine you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter; because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but ye did that which was evil in mine eyes, and chose that wherein I delighted not.

13 Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah, Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry; behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty; behold, my servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be put to shame; 14 behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall wail for vexation of spirit.

11 But ye who forsake Jehovah, who forget my holy mountain, who prepare a table for Gad, and fill up mixed wine unto Meni: 12 I will even assign you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down in the slaughter; because I called, and ye did not answer, I spoke, and ye did not hear; but ye did what was evil in mine eyes, and chose that wherein I delight not. 13 Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, my servants shall eat, and ye shall be hungry; behold, my servants shall drink, and ye shall be thirsty; behold, my servants shall rejoice, and ye shall be ashamed; 14 behold, my servants shall sing aloud for gladness of heart, and ye shall cry out for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexation of spirit.

11 You have abandoned the Lord 

and forgotten my holy mountain. 

You have prepared a table for the god of good fortune 

and offered cups full of spiced wine to the goddess of destiny. 

12 Now I will destine you for death. 

All of you will bow to be slaughtered. 

I called, but you didn’t answer. 

I spoke, but you didn’t listen. 

You did what I consider evil. 

You chose what I don’t like. 

13 This is what the Lord God says: 

My servants will eat, but you will be hungry. 

My servants will drink, but you will be thirsty. 

My servants will be glad, but you will be ashamed. 

14 My servants will sing because of the gladness in their hearts. 

But you will cry because of your sadness 

and wail because of your depression. 

11 But you who abandon the Lord,

who forget My holy mountain,

who prepare a table for Fortune

and fill bowls of mixed wine for Destiny,

12 I will destine you for the sword,

and all of you will kneel down to be slaughtered,

because I called and you did not answer,

I spoke and you did not hear;

you did what was evil in My sight

and chose what I did not delight in.

13 Therefore, this is what the Lord God says:

My servants will eat,

but you will be hungry;

My servants will drink,

but you will be thirsty;

My servants will rejoice,

but you will be put to shame.

14 My servants will shout for joy from a glad heart,

but you will cry out from an anguished heart,

and you will lament out of a broken spirit.

11 But you who forsake the Lord,

who forget my holy mountain,

who set a table for Fortune

and fill cups of mixed wine for Destiny,

12 I will destine you to the sword,

and all of you shall bow down to the slaughter;

because, when I called, you did not answer,

when I spoke, you did not listen,

but you did what was evil in my sight

and chose what I did not delight in.

13 Therefore thus says the Lord God:

My servants shall eat,

but you shall be hungry;

my servants shall drink,

but you shall be thirsty;

my servants shall rejoice,

but you shall be put to shame;

14 my servants shall sing with gladness of heart,

but you shall cry out in pain of heart

and shall wail in anguish of spirit.

11 But you who forsake Yahweh,

forgetting my holy mountain,

who set a table for Fortune,

and who pour out a jug of mixed wine for Destiny,

12 and I will remit you to the sword,

and all of you shall bow down to the slaughter,

because I called, but you did not answer;

I spoke, but you did not listen,

but you did the evil in my eyes,

and you chose that in which I do not delight.”

13 Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh:

“Look! My servants shall eat but you, you shall be hungry.

Look! My servants shall drink but you, you shall be thirsty.

Look! My servants shall rejoice but you, you shall be ashamed.

14 Look! My servants shall shout for joy of heart, but you, you shall cry out for pain and howl for sadness.

11 “But some of you have deserted me.

You no longer worship on my holy mountain of Zion.

You spread a table for the god that is called Good Fortune.

You offer bowls of mixed wine to the god named Fate.

12 So I will make it your fate to be killed with swords.

Each of you will die a horrible death.

That is because I called out to you, but you did not answer me.

I spoke to you, but you did not listen.

You did what is evil in my sight.

You chose to do what does not please me.”

13 So the Lord and King says,

“Those who serve me will have food to eat.

But you will be hungry.

My servants will have plenty to drink.

But you will be thirsty.

Those who serve me will be full of joy.

But you will be put to shame.

14 My servants will sing

with joy in their hearts.

But you will cry out

because of the great pain in your hearts.

You will cry because your spirits are sad.

11 “But you who forsake the Lord,

Who forget My holy mountain,

Who set a table for Fortune,

And who fill cups with mixed wine for Destiny,

12 I will destine you for the sword,

And all of you will bow down to the slaughter.

Because I called, but you did not answer;

I spoke, but you did not hear.

And you did evil in My sight

And chose that in which I did not delight.”

13 Therefore, thus says the Lord God,

“Behold, My servants will eat, but you will be hungry.

Behold, My servants will drink, but you will be thirsty.

Behold, My servants will rejoice, but you will be put to shame.

14 “Behold, My servants will shout joyfully with a glad heart,

But you will cry out with a heavy heart,

And you will wail with a broken spirit.
