Isaiah 23:10–14 — The New International Version (NIV)

10 Till your land as they do along the Nile,

Daughter Tarshish,

for you no longer have a harbor.

11 The Lord has stretched out his hand over the sea

and made its kingdoms tremble.

He has given an order concerning Phoenicia

that her fortresses be destroyed.

12 He said, “No more of your reveling,

Virgin Daughter Sidon, now crushed!

“Up, cross over to Cyprus;

even there you will find no rest.”

13 Look at the land of the Babylonians,

this people that is now of no account!

The Assyrians have made it

a place for desert creatures;

they raised up their siege towers,

they stripped its fortresses bare

and turned it into a ruin.

14 Wail, you ships of Tarshish;

your fortress is destroyed!

Isaiah 23:10–14 — English Standard Version (ESV)

10 Cross over your land like the Nile,

O daughter of Tarshish;

there is no restraint anymore.

11 He has stretched out his hand over the sea;

he has shaken the kingdoms;

the Lord has given command concerning Canaan

to destroy its strongholds.

12 And he said:

“You will no more exult,

O oppressed virgin daughter of Sidon;

arise, cross over to Cyprus,

even there you will have no rest.”

13 Behold the land of the Chaldeans! This is the people that was not; Assyria destined it for wild beasts. They erected their siege towers, they stripped her palaces bare, they made her a ruin.

14 Wail, O ships of Tarshish,

for your stronghold is laid waste.

Isaiah 23:10–14 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

10 Pass through thy land as a river, O daughter of Tarshish:

There is no more strength.

11 He stretched out his hand over the sea, he shook the kingdoms:

The Lord hath given a commandment against the merchant city, to destroy the strong holds thereof.

12 And he said, Thou shalt no more rejoice,

O thou oppressed virgin, daughter of Zidon:

Arise, pass over to Chittim;

There also shalt thou have no rest.

13 Behold the land of the Chaldeans;

This people was not,

Till the Assyrian founded it for them that dwell in the wilderness:

They set up the towers thereof,

They raised up the palaces thereof;

And he brought it to ruin.

14 Howl, ye ships of Tarshish: for your strength is laid waste.

Isaiah 23:10–14 — New Living Translation (NLT)

10 Come, people of Tarshish,

sweep over the land like the flooding Nile,

for Tyre is defenseless.

11 The Lord held out his hand over the sea

and shook the kingdoms of the earth.

He has spoken out against Phoenicia,

ordering that her fortresses be destroyed.

12 He says, “Never again will you rejoice,

O daughter of Sidon, for you have been crushed.

Even if you flee to Cyprus,

you will find no rest.”

13 Look at the land of Babylonia—

the people of that land are gone!

The Assyrians have handed Babylon over

to the wild animals of the desert.

They have built siege ramps against its walls,

torn down its palaces,

and turned it to a heap of rubble.

14 Wail, you ships of Tarshish,

for your harbor is destroyed!

Isaiah 23:10–14 — New Century Version (NCV)

10 Go through your land, people of Tarshish,

like the Nile goes through Egypt.

There is no harbor for you now!

11 The Lord has stretched his hand over the sea

and made its kingdoms tremble.

He commands that Canaan’s

strong, walled cities be destroyed.

12 He said, “Sidon, you will not rejoice any longer,

because you are destroyed.

Even if you cross the sea to Cyprus,

you will not find a place to rest.”

13 Look at the land of the Babylonians;

it is not a country now.

Assyria has made it a place for wild animals.

Assyria built towers to attack it;

the soldiers took all the treasures from its cities,

and they turned it into ruins.

14 So be sad, you trading ships,

because your strong city is destroyed.

13 Behold, the land of the Chaldeans: this people was not; the Assyrian founded it for them that dwell in the wilderness; they set up their towers; they overthrew the palaces thereof; they made it a ruin. 14 Howl, ye ships of Tarshish; for your stronghold is laid waste.

Jehovah hath given a commandment concerning Canaan, to destroy the strongholds thereof, 12 and hath said, Thou shalt no more exult, thou oppressed virgin, daughter of Sidon: get thee up, pass over to Chittim; even there shalt thou have no rest. 13 Behold the land of the Chaldeans: this people did not exist; the Assyrian founded it for the dwellers in the desert: they set up their towers, they destroyed the palaces thereof; he brought it to ruin. 14 Howl, ships of Tarshish! for your fortress is laid waste.

12 He says, “You will no longer be joyful,

my dear abused people Sidon.”

Get up, and travel to Cyprus.

Even there you will find no rest.

13 Look at the land of the Babylonians.

These people will be gone.

Assyria gave this land to the desert animals.

Assyria set up battle towers,

stripped palaces bare,

and turned these places into ruins.

14 Cry loudly, you ships of Tarshish, because your fortress will be destroyed.

Isaiah 23:10–14 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

ravished young woman, daughter of Sidon.

Get up and cross over to Cyprus —

even there you will have no rest!”

a people who no longer exist.

Assyria destined it for desert creatures.

They made it a ruin.

because your fortress is destroyed!

O oppressed virgin daughter Sidon;

rise, cross over to Cyprus—

for your fortress is destroyed.

People of Sidon, you are now destroyed!

Even there you will not find any rest.”

No one lives there anymore.

The Assyrians have turned it
