Isaiah 18:5–7 — The New International Version (NIV)

For, before the harvest, when the blossom is gone

and the flower becomes a ripening grape,

he will cut off the shoots with pruning knives,

and cut down and take away the spreading branches.

They will all be left to the mountain birds of prey

and to the wild animals;

the birds will feed on them all summer,

the wild animals all winter.

At that time gifts will be brought to the Lord Almighty

from a people tall and smooth-skinned,

from a people feared far and wide,

an aggressive nation of strange speech,

whose land is divided by rivers—

the gifts will be brought to Mount Zion, the place of the Name of the Lord Almighty.

Isaiah 18:5–7 — English Standard Version (ESV)

For before the harvest, when the blossom is over,

and the flower becomes a ripening grape,

he cuts off the shoots with pruning hooks,

and the spreading branches he lops off and clears away.

They shall all of them be left

to the birds of prey of the mountains

and to the beasts of the earth.

And the birds of prey will summer on them,

and all the beasts of the earth will winter on them.

At that time tribute will be brought to the Lord of hosts

from a people tall and smooth,

from a people feared near and far,

a nation mighty and conquering,

whose land the rivers divide,

to Mount Zion, the place of the name of the Lord of hosts.

Isaiah 18:5–7 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

For afore the harvest, when the bud is perfect,

And the sour grape is ripening in the flower,

He shall both cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks,

And take away and cut down the branches.

They shall be left together unto the fowls of the mountains,

And to the beasts of the earth:

And the fowls shall summer upon them,

And all the beasts of the earth shall winter upon them.

In that time shall the present be brought unto the Lord of hosts

Of a people scattered and peeled,

And from a people terrible from their beginning hitherto;

A nation meted out and trodden under foot,

Whose land the rivers have spoiled,

To the place of the name of the Lord of hosts, the mount Zion.

Isaiah 18:5–7 — New Living Translation (NLT)

Even before you begin your attack,

while your plans are ripening like grapes,

the Lord will cut off your new growth with pruning shears.

He will snip off and discard your spreading branches.

Your mighty army will be left dead in the fields

for the mountain vultures and wild animals.

The vultures will tear at the corpses all summer.

The wild animals will gnaw at the bones all winter.

At that time the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will receive gifts

from this land divided by rivers,

from this tall, smooth-skinned people,

who are feared far and wide for their conquests and destruction.

They will bring the gifts to Jerusalem,

where the Lord of Heaven’s Armies dwells.

Isaiah 18:5–7 — New Century Version (NCV)

The time will come, after the flowers have bloomed and before the harvest,

when new grapes will be budding and growing.

The enemy will cut the plants with knives;

he will cut down the vines and take them away.

They will be left for the birds of the mountains

and for the wild animals.

Birds will feed on them all summer,

and wild animals will eat them that winter.”

At that time a gift will be brought to the Lord All-Powerful

from the people who are tall and smooth-skinned,

who are feared everywhere.

They are a powerful nation that defeats other nations.

Their land is divided by rivers.

These gifts will be brought to the place of the Lord All-Powerful,

to Mount Zion.

Isaiah 18:5–7 — American Standard Version (ASV)

For before the harvest, when the blossom is over, and the flower becometh a ripening grape, he will cut off the sprigs with pruning-hooks, and the spreading branches will he take away and cut down. They shall be left together unto the ravenous birds of the mountains, and to the beasts of the earth; and the ravenous birds shall summer upon them, and all the beasts of the earth shall winter upon them. In that time shall a present be brought unto Jehovah of hosts from a people tall and smooth, even from a people terrible from their beginning onward, a nation that meteth out and treadeth down, whose land the rivers divide, to the place of the name of Jehovah of hosts, the mount Zion.

Isaiah 18:5–7 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

For before the harvest, when the blossoming is over, and the flower becometh a ripening grape, he shall both cut off the sprigs with pruning-knives, and take away and cut down the branches. They shall be left together unto the mountain birds of prey, and to the beasts of the earth; and the birds of prey shall summer upon them, and all the beasts of the earth shall winter upon them. In that time shall a present be brought unto Jehovah of hosts of a people scattered and ravaged, —and from a people terrible from their existence and thenceforth, a nation of continued waiting and of treading down, whose land the rivers have spoiled, …to the place of the name of Jehovah of hosts, the mount Zion.

Isaiah 18:5–7 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

Before the harvest, when blossoms are gone

and grapes are ripening from blossoms,

he will cut off the shoots with pruning shears

and chop off the spreading branches.

They will be left for the birds of prey on the mountains

and the wild animals.

The birds of prey will feed on them in the summer,

and all the wild animals on earth

will feed on them in the winter.

At that time gifts will be brought to the Lord of Armies

from a tall and smooth-skinned people,

a people ⸤who are⸥ feared far and near,

a strong and aggressive nation,

whose land is divided by rivers.

They will be brought to Mount Zion,

the place where the name of the Lord of Armies is.

Isaiah 18:5–7 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

For before the harvest, when the blossoming is over

and the blossom becomes a ripening grape,

He will cut off the shoots with a pruning knife,

and tear away and remove the branches.

They will all be left for the birds of prey on the hills

and for the wild animals of the land.

The birds will spend the summer on them,

and all the animals, the winter on them.

At that time a gift will be brought to Yahweh of Hosts from a people tall and smooth-skinned, a people feared far and near, a powerful nation with a strange language, whose land is divided by rivers—to Mount Zion, the place of the name of Yahweh of Hosts.

Isaiah 18:5–7 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

For before the harvest, when the blossom is over

and the flower becomes a ripening grape,

he will cut off the shoots with pruning hooks,

and the spreading branches he will hew away.

They shall all be left

to the birds of prey of the mountains

and to the animals of the earth.

And the birds of prey will summer on them,

and all the animals of the earth will winter on them.

At that time gifts will be brought to the Lord of hosts from a people tall and smooth, from a people feared near and far, a nation mighty and conquering, whose land the rivers divide, to Mount Zion, the place of the name of the Lord of hosts.

Isaiah 18:5–7 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

For before the harvest, when the blossom is complete

and a blossom becomes ripening fruit,

and one cuts off the shoots with pruning hooks,

and one removes, tears away the tendrils.

They shall all be left for birds of prey of the mountains

and for the animals of the earth.

And the birds of prey will pass the summer on it,

and every animal of the earth will winter on it.

At that time, a gift will be brought to Yahweh of hosts

from a tall and smooth people,

and from a people feared near and far,

a mighty, mighty and trampling nation,

whose land the rivers divide,

to the place of the name of Yahweh of hosts,

the mountain of Zion.

Isaiah 18:5–7 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

A farmer cuts off new growth with pruning knives.

He cuts down spreading branches and takes them away.

He does it before the grapes are harvested.

That’s when the blooms are gone and the grapes are ripe.

In the same way, the Lord will cut off the nations

that are gathered against his people.

Their dead bodies will be left for the birds of the mountains to eat.

They will be left for the wild animals.

The birds will eat the dead bodies all summer long.

The wild animals will eat them all through the winter.

At that time gifts will be brought to the Lord who rules over all.

The people who are tall and have smooth skin will bring them.

Everyone is afraid of those people.

They are warriors. Their language is different from ours.

Their land is divided up by rivers.

They will bring their gifts to Mount Zion. That’s where the Lord who rules over all has put his Name.

Isaiah 18:5–7 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

For before the harvest, as soon as the bud blossoms

And the flower becomes a ripening grape,

Then He will cut off the sprigs with pruning knives

And remove and cut away the spreading branches.

They will be left together for mountain birds of prey,

And for the beasts of the earth;

And the birds of prey will spend the summer feeding on them,

And all the beasts of the earth will spend harvest time on them.

At that time a gift of homage will be brought to the Lord of hosts

From a people tall and smooth,

Even from a people feared far and wide,

A powerful and oppressive nation,

Whose land the rivers divide

To the place of the name of the Lord of hosts, even Mount Zion.
