There is only cursing, lying and murder,

stealing and adultery;

they break all bounds,

and bloodshed follows bloodshed.

Because of this the land dries up,

and all who live in it waste away;

the beasts of the field, the birds in the sky

and the fish in the sea are swept away.

Hosea 4:2–3 — English Standard Version (ESV)

there is swearing, lying, murder, stealing, and committing adultery;

they break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed.

Therefore the land mourns,

and all who dwell in it languish,

and also the beasts of the field

and the birds of the heavens,

and even the fish of the sea are taken away.

Hosea 4:2–3 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out,

And blood toucheth blood.

Therefore shall the land mourn,

And every one that dwelleth therein shall languish,

With the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven;

Yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.

Hosea 4:2–3 — New Living Translation (NLT)

You make vows and break them;

you kill and steal and commit adultery.

There is violence everywhere—

one murder after another.

That is why your land is in mourning,

and everyone is wasting away.

Even the wild animals, the birds of the sky,

and the fish of the sea are disappearing.

Hosea 4:2–3 — New Century Version (NCV)

Cursing, lying, killing, stealing and adultery are everywhere.

One murder follows another.

Because of this the land dries up,

and all its people are dying.

Even the wild animals and the birds of the air

and the fish of the sea are dying.

Hosea 4:2–3 — American Standard Version (ASV)

There is nought but swearing and breaking faith, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery; they break out, and blood toucheth blood. Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field and the birds of the heavens; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.

Hosea 4:2–3 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

Swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, —they break out; and blood toucheth blood. For this shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowl of the heavens, yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.

Hosea 4:2–3 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

There is cursing, lying, murdering, stealing, and adultery.

People break ⸤my laws⸥, and there is one murder after another.

That is why the land is drying up,

and everyone who lives in it is passing away.

Wild animals, birds, and fish are dying.

Hosea 4:2–3 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Cursing, lying, murder, stealing,

and adultery are rampant;

one act of bloodshed follows another.

For this reason the land mourns,

and everyone who lives in it languishes,

along with the wild animals and the birds of the sky;

even the fish of the sea disappear.

Hosea 4:2–3 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

Swearing, lying, and murder,

and stealing and adultery break out;

bloodshed follows bloodshed.

Therefore the land mourns,

and all who live in it languish;

and the birds of the air,

even the fish of the sea are perishing.

Hosea 4:2–3 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

Swearing and lying,

murdering and stealing,

and adultery break out,

and bloodshed follows bloodshed.

Therefore the land mourns,

and all those living in it languish

with the animals of the field,

and the birds of the heaven,

and even the fish of the sea

are being swept away.

Hosea 4:2–3 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

People call down curses on others.

They tell lies and commit murder.

They steal and commit adultery.

They break all of my laws.

They keep on spilling the blood of others.

That is why the land is drying up.

All those who live in it

are getting weaker and weaker.

The wild animals and the birds of the air are dying.

So are the fish in the ocean.

Hosea 4:2–3 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

There is swearing, deception, murder, stealing and adultery.

They employ violence, so that bloodshed follows bloodshed.

Therefore the land mourns,

And everyone who lives in it languishes

Along with the beasts of the field and the birds of the sky,

And also the fish of the sea disappear.
