Ephesians 5:13–14
Ephesians 5:13–14 — The New International Version (NIV)
13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. 14 This is why it is said:
“Wake up, sleeper,
rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”
Ephesians 5:13–14 — English Standard Version (ESV)
13 But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, 14 for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says,
“Awake, O sleeper,
and arise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”
Ephesians 5:13–14 — King James Version (KJV 1900)
13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. 14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
Ephesians 5:13–14 — New Living Translation (NLT)
13 But their evil intentions will be exposed when the light shines on them, 14 for the light makes everything visible. This is why it is said,
“Awake, O sleeper,
rise up from the dead,
and Christ will give you light.”
Ephesians 5:13–14 — New Century Version (NCV)
13 But the light makes all things easy to see, 14 and everything that is made easy to see can become light. This is why it is said:
“Wake up, sleeper!
Rise from death,
and Christ will shine on you.”
Ephesians 5:13–14 — American Standard Version (ASV)
13 But all things when they are reproved are made manifest by the light: for everything that is made manifest is light. 14 Wherefore he saith, Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall shine upon thee.
Ephesians 5:13–14 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)
13 But all things having their true character exposed by the light are made manifest; for that which makes everything manifest is light. 14 Wherefore he says, Wake up, thou that sleepest, and arise up from among the dead, and the Christ shall shine upon thee.
Ephesians 5:13–14 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
13 Light exposes the true character of everything 14 because light makes everything easy to see. That’s why it says:
“Wake up, sleeper!
Rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”
Ephesians 5:13–14 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
13 Everything exposed by the light is made clear, 14 for what makes everything clear is light. Therefore it is said:
Get up, sleeper, and rise up from the dead,
and the Messiah will shine on you.
Ephesians 5:13–14 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
13 but everything exposed by the light becomes visible, 14 for everything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says,
“Sleeper, awake!
Rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”
Ephesians 5:13–14 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)
13 but all things exposed by the light are made visible, 14 for everything made visible is light. Therefore it says,
Wake up, sleeper,
and rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.
Ephesians 5:13–14 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)
13 But everything the light shines on can be seen. 14 Light makes everything clear. That is why it is said,
“Wake up, sleeper.
Rise from the dead.
Then Christ will shine on you.”
Ephesians 5:13–14 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)
13 But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light.
14 For this reason it says,
“Awake, sleeper,
And arise from the dead,
And Christ will shine on you.”
