Amos 7:16–17 — The New International Version (NIV)

16 Now then, hear the word of the Lord. You say,

“ ‘Do not prophesy against Israel,

and stop preaching against the descendants of Isaac.’

17 “Therefore this is what the Lord says:

“ ‘Your wife will become a prostitute in the city,

and your sons and daughters will fall by the sword.

Your land will be measured and divided up,

and you yourself will die in a pagan country.

And Israel will surely go into exile,

away from their native land.’ ”

Amos 7:16–17 — English Standard Version (ESV)

16 Now therefore hear the word of the Lord.

“You say, ‘Do not prophesy against Israel,

and do not preach against the house of Isaac.’

17 Therefore thus says the Lord:

“ ‘Your wife shall be a prostitute in the city,

and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword,

and your land shall be divided up with a measuring line;

you yourself shall die in an unclean land,

and Israel shall surely go into exile away from its land.’ ”

Amos 7:16–17 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

16 Now therefore hear thou the word of the Lord:

Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel,

And drop not thy word against the house of Isaac.

17 Therefore thus saith the Lord;

Thy wife shall be an harlot in the city,

And thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword,

And thy land shall be divided by line;

And thou shalt die in a polluted land:

And Israel shall surely go into captivity forth of his land.

Amos 7:16–17 — New Living Translation (NLT)

16 Now then, listen to this message from the Lord:

“You say,

‘Don’t prophesy against Israel.

Stop preaching against my people.’

17 But this is what the Lord says:

‘Your wife will become a prostitute in this city,

and your sons and daughters will be killed.

Your land will be divided up,

and you yourself will die in a foreign land.

And the people of Israel will certainly become captives in exile,

far from their homeland.’ ”

Amos 7:16–17 — New Century Version (NCV)

16 So listen to the Lord’s word. You tell me,

‘Don’t prophesy against Israel,

and stop prophesying against the descendants of Isaac.’

17 “Because you have said this, the Lord says:

‘Your wife will become a prostitute in the city,

and your sons and daughters will be killed with swords.

Other people will measure your land and divide it among themselves,

and you will die in a foreign country.

The people of Israel will definitely be taken

from their own land as captives.’ ”

Amos 7:16–17 — American Standard Version (ASV)

16 Now therefore hear thou the word of Jehovah: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not thy word against the house of Isaac; 17 therefore thus saith Jehovah: Thy wife shall be a harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou thyself shalt die in a land that is unclean, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.

Amos 7:16–17 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

16 And now hear thou the word of Jehovah: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and utter not words against the house of Isaac. 17 Therefore thus saith Jehovah: Thy wife shall be a harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided with the line; and thou shalt die in a land that is unclean; and Israel shall certainly go into captivity, out of his land.

Amos 7:16–17 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

16 “Now listen to the Lord’s word: You said, ‘Stop prophesying against Israel, and stop preaching against the descendants of Isaac.’

17 “However, this is what the Lord says: Your wife will become a prostitute in the city, and your sons and daughters will be killed with swords. Your land will be surveyed and divided up, and you will die in an uncleanland. Israel cannot avoid being taken from its land into exile.”

Amos 7:16–17 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

16 Now hear the word of the Lord. You say:

Do not prophesy against Israel;

do not preach against the house of Isaac.

17 Therefore, this is what the Lord says:

Your wife will be a prostitute in the city,

your sons and daughters will fall by the sword,

and your land will be divided up

with a measuring line.

You yourself will die on pagan soil,

and Israel will certainly go into exile

from its homeland.

Amos 7:16–17 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

16 “Now therefore hear the word of the Lord.

You say, ‘Do not prophesy against Israel,

and do not preach against the house of Isaac.’

17 Therefore thus says the Lord:

‘Your wife shall become a prostitute in the city,

and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword,

and your land shall be parceled out by line;

you yourself shall die in an unclean land,

and Israel shall surely go into exile away from its land.’ ”

Amos 7:16–17 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

16 And so then, hear the word of Yahweh! You are saying, ‘You must not prophesy against Israel and you must not preach against the house of Isaac!’ 17 Therefore, thus says Yahweh, ‘Your wife will become a prostitute in the city and your sons and your daughters will fall by the sword and your land will be divided with a line, and you will die in an unclean land and Israel will surely go into exile from this land.’ ”

Amos 7:16–17 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

16 Now then, listen to the Lord’s message. You say,

“ ‘Don’t prophesy against Israel.

Stop preaching against the people of Isaac.’

17 “But the Lord says,

“ ‘Your wife will become a prostitute

in the city of Bethel.

Your sons and daughters will be killed with swords.

Your land will be measured and divided up.

And you yourself will die in another country.

The people of Israel will be taken away as prisoners.

They will be carried off from their own land.’ ”

Amos 7:16–17 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

16 Now hear the word of the Lord: you are saying, ‘You shall not prophesy against Israel nor shall you speak against the house of Isaac.’

17 Therefore, thus says the Lord, ‘Your wife will become a harlot in the city, your sons and your daughters will fall by the sword, your land will be parceled up by a measuring line and you yourself will die upon unclean soil. Moreover, Israel will certainly go from its land into exile.’ ”
