Amos 6:12–13 — The New International Version (NIV)

12 Do horses run on the rocky crags?

Does one plow the sea with oxen?

But you have turned justice into poison

and the fruit of righteousness into bitterness—

13 you who rejoice in the conquest of Lo Debar

and say, “Did we not take Karnaim by our own strength?”

Amos 6:12–13 — English Standard Version (ESV)

12 Do horses run on rocks?

Does one plow there with oxen?

But you have turned justice into poison

and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood—

13 you who rejoice in Lo-debar,

who say, “Have we not by our own strength

captured Karnaim for ourselves?”

Amos 6:12–13 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

12 Shall horses run upon the rock?

Will one plow there with oxen?

For ye have turned judgment into gall,

And the fruit of righteousness into hemlock:

13 Ye which rejoice in a thing of nought,

Which say, Have we not taken to us horns by our own strength?

Amos 6:12–13 — New Living Translation (NLT)

12 Can horses gallop over boulders?

Can oxen be used to plow them?

But that’s how foolish you are when you turn justice into poison

and the sweet fruit of righteousness into bitterness.

13 And you brag about your conquest of Lo-debar.

You boast, “Didn’t we take Karnaim by our own strength?”

Amos 6:12–13 — New Century Version (NCV)

12 Horses do not run on rocks,

and people do not plow rocks with oxen.

But you have changed fairness into poison;

you have changed what is right into a bitter taste.

13 You are happy that the town of Lo Debar was captured,

and you say, “We have taken Karnaim by our own strength.”

Amos 6:12–13 — American Standard Version (ASV)

12 Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there with oxen? that ye have turned justice into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood; 13 ye that rejoice in a thing of nought, that say, Have we not taken to us horns by our own strength?

Amos 6:12–13 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

12 Shall horses run upon the rock? will men plough thereon with oxen? For ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood, 13 —ye that rejoice in a thing of nought, that say, Have we not taken to us power by our own strength?

Amos 6:12–13 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

12 Do horses run on rocks?

Does a farmer plow the sea with oxen?

Yet, you have turned justice into something deadly

and what is righteous into poison.

13 How horrible it will be for those who rejoice over Lo Debar

and who say, “We were strong enough to capture Karnaim by ourselves.”

Amos 6:12–13 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

12 Do horses gallop on the cliffs;

does anyone plow there with oxen?

Yet you have turned justice into poison

and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood —

13 you who rejoice over Lo-debar

and say, “Didn’t we capture Karnaim

for ourselves by our own strength?”

Amos 6:12–13 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

12 Do horses run on rocks?

Does one plow the sea with oxen?

But you have turned justice into poison

and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood—

13 you who rejoice in Lo-debar,

who say, “Have we not by our own strength

taken Karnaim for ourselves?”

Amos 6:12–13 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

12 Do horses run on rocks, or does one plow the sea with oxen? But you have turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood! 13 You who rejoice over Lo-Debar, who say, “Have we not taken Karnaim for ourselves by our strength?”

Amos 6:12–13 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

12 Horses don’t run on rocky ground.

People don’t plow there with oxen.

But you have turned fair treatment into poison.

You have turned the fruit of right living into bitterness.

13 You are happy because you captured the town of Lo Debar.

You say, “We were strong enough to take Karnaim too.”

Amos 6:12–13 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

12 Do horses run on rocks?

Or does one plow them with oxen?

Yet you have turned justice into poison

And the fruit of righteousness into wormwood,

13 You who rejoice in Lodebar,

And say, “Have we not by our own strength taken Karnaim for ourselves?”
