38 Do not forget the covenant I have made with you, and do not worship other gods. 39 Rather, worship the Lord your God; it is he who will deliver you from the hand of all your enemies.”

40 They would not listen, however, but persisted in their former practices.

38 and you shall not forget the covenant that I have made with you. You shall not fear other gods, 39 but you shall fear the Lord your God, and he will deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.” 40 However, they would not listen, but they did according to their former manner.

38 And the covenant that I have made with you ye shall not forget; neither shall ye fear other gods. 39 But the Lord your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies. 40 Howbeit they did not hearken, but they did after their former manner.

40 But the people would not listen and continued to follow their former practices.

40 But the Israelites did not listen. They kept on doing the same things they had done before.

40 The people of Israel had refused to listen and made up their own rules, as they had done from the beginning.

40 However, they would not listen but continued practicing their former customs.

38 “Do not forget the covenant I made with you. And remember, you must not worship other gods. 39 Instead, worship me. I will save you from the powerful hand of all of your enemies. I am the Lord your God.”

40 But the people wouldn’t listen. Instead, they were stubborn. They continued in their old practices.

38 “The covenant that I have made with you, you shall not forget, nor shall you fear other gods.

39 “But the Lord your God you shall fear; and He will deliver you from the hand of all your enemies.”

40 However, they did not listen, but they did according to their earlier custom.
