Mark 14:18–24

18 While they were reclining at the table eating, he said, Truly I tell you, one of you will betray meone who is eating with me.”

19 They were saddened, and one by one they said to him, “Surely you don’t mean me?”

20 It is one of the Twelve,” he replied, one who dips bread into the bowl with me.m 21 The Son of Mann will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”

22 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke ito and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take it; this is my body.”

23 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and they all drank from it.p

24 This is my blood of thec covenant,q which is poured out for many,” he said to them.

22 As they were eating, Jesus took some bread and blessed it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, Take it, for this is my body.”

23 And he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. He gave it to them, and they all drank from it. 24 And he said to them, This is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice for many.

19 The followers were very sad to hear this. Each one began to say to Jesus, “I am not the one, am I?”

20 Jesus answered, “It is one of the twelve—the one who dips his bread into the bowl with me. 21 The Son of Man will die, just as the Scriptures say. But how terrible it will be for the person who hands the Son of Man over to be killed. It would be better for him if he had never been born.”

22 While they were eating, Jesus took some bread and thanked God for it and broke it. Then he gave it to his followers and said, “Take it; this is my body.”

23 Then Jesus took a cup and thanked God for it and gave it to the followers, and they all drank from the cup.

24 Then Jesus said, “This is my blood which is the new agreement that God makes with his people. This blood is poured out for many.

But how horrible it will be for that person who betrays the Son of Man! It would have been better for that person if he had never been born.”
