Isaiah 38:13–14 — English Standard Version (ESV)
13 I calmed myself until morning;
like a lion he breaks all my bones;
from day to night you bring me to an end.
14 Like a swallow or a crane I chirp;
I moan like a dove.
My eyes are weary with looking upward.
O Lord, I am oppressed; be my pledge of safety!
Isaiah 38:13–14 — King James Version (KJV 1900)
13 I reckoned till morning, that, as a lion, so will he break all my bones:
From day even to night wilt thou make an end of me.
14 Like a crane or a swallow, so did I chatter:
I did mourn as a dove:
Mine eyes fail with looking upward:
O Lord, I am oppressed; undertake for me.
Isaiah 38:13–14 — New Living Translation (NLT)
13 I waited patiently all night,
but I was torn apart as though by lions.
Suddenly, my life was over.
14 Delirious, I chattered like a swallow or a crane,
and then I moaned like a mourning dove.
My eyes grew tired of looking to heaven for help.
I am in trouble, Lord. Help me!”
Isaiah 38:13–14 — The New King James Version (NKJV)
13 I have considered until morning—
Like a lion,
So He breaks all my bones;
From day until night You make an end of me.
14 Like a crane or a swallow, so I chattered;
I mourned like a dove;
My eyes fail from looking upward.
O Lord, I am oppressed;
Undertake for me!
Isaiah 38:13–14 — New Century Version (NCV)
13 All night I cried loudly.
Like a lion, he crushed all my bones.
In one day you brought me to this end.
14 I cried like a bird
and moaned like a dove.
My eyes became tired as I looked to the heavens.
Lord, I have troubles. Please help me.”
Isaiah 38:13–14 — American Standard Version (ASV)
13 I quieted myself until morning; as a lion, so he breaketh all my bones:
From day even to night wilt thou make an end of me.
14 Like a swallow or a crane, so did I chatter;
I did moan as a dove; mine eyes fail with looking upward:
O Lord, I am oppressed, be thou my surety.
Isaiah 38:13–14 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)
13 I kept still until the morning; …as a lion, so doth he break all my bones. From day to night thou wilt make an end of me. 14 Like a swallow or a crane, so did I chatter; I mourned as a dove; mine eyes failed with looking upward: Lord, I am oppressed; undertake for me.
Isaiah 38:13–14 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
13 I cried out until morning
as if a lion had crushed all my bones.
You ended my life in one day.
14 I chirped like swallows and cranes.
I cooed like doves.
My eyes were tired from looking up to heaven.
I’ve suffered miserably, O Lord!
Please help me!
Isaiah 38:13–14 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
13 I thought until the morning:
He will break all my bones like a lion;
You make an end of me day and night.
14 I chirp like a swallow or a crane;
I moan like a dove.
My eyes grow weak looking upward.
Lord, I am oppressed; support me.
Isaiah 38:13–14 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

like a lion he breaks all my bones;
from day to night you bring me to an end.

I moan like a dove.
My eyes are weary with looking upward.
O Lord, I am oppressed; be my security!

13 I lie down until morning;
like a lion, so he breaks all my bones;
from day to night you bring me to an end.

My eyes are weak toward the height.
Lord, I have oppression; lend me support!

13 I waited patiently until sunrise.
But like a lion you broke all of my bones.
In a short period of time you have brought my life to an end.
14 I cried softly like a weak little bird.
I groaned like a sad dove.
My eyes grew tired as I looked up toward heaven.
Lord, I’m in trouble. Please come and help me!

Like a lion—so He breaks all my bones,
From day until night You make an end of me.

I moan like a dove;
My eyes look wistfully to the heights;
O Lord, I am oppressed, be my security.
