1 Chronicles 23:3–6
3 The Levites thirty years old or mored were counted,e and the total number of men was thirty-eight thousand.f 4 David said, “Of these, twenty-four thousand are to be in chargeg of the workh of the temple of the Lord and six thousand are to be officials and judges.i 5 Four thousand are to be gatekeepers and four thousand are to praise the Lord with the musical instrumentsj I have provided for that purpose.”k
6 David separatedl the Levites into divisions corresponding to the sons of Levi:m Gershon, Kohath and Merari.

3 The Levites, thirty years old and upward, were numbered, and the total was 38,000 men. 4 “Twenty-four thousand of these,” David said, “shall have charge of the work in the house of the Lord, 6,000 shall be officers and judges, 5 4,000 gatekeepers, and 4,000 shall offer praises to the Lord with the instruments that I have made for praise.” 6 And David organized them in divisions corresponding to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
