1 We have heard it with our ears, O God;

our ancestors have told us

what you did in their days,

in days long ago.

2 With your hand you drove out the nations

and planted our ancestors;

you crushed the peoples

and made our ancestors flourish.

3 It was not by their sword that they won the land,

nor did their arm bring them victory;

it was your right hand, your arm,

and the light of your face, for you loved them.

1 O God, we have heard with our ears,

our fathers have told us,

what deeds you performed in their days,

in the days of old:

2 you with your own hand drove out the nations,

but them you planted;

you afflicted the peoples,

but them you set free;

3 for not by their own sword did they win the land,

nor did their own arm save them,

but your right hand and your arm,

and the light of your face,

for you delighted in them.

Our fathers have told us,

What work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.

2 How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them;

How thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out.

3 For they got not the land in possession by their own sword,

Neither did their own arm save them:

But thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance,

Because thou hadst a favour unto them.

1 O God, we have heard it with our own ears—

our ancestors have told us

of all you did in their day,

in days long ago:

2 You drove out the pagan nations by your power

and gave all the land to our ancestors.

You crushed their enemies

and set our ancestors free.

3 They did not conquer the land with their swords;

it was not their own strong arm that gave them victory.

It was your right hand and strong arm

and the blinding light from your face that helped them,

for you loved them.

1 We have heard with our ears, O God, Our fathers have told us,

The deeds You did in their days,

In days of old:

2 You drove out the nations with Your hand,

But them You planted;

You afflicted the peoples, and cast them out.

3 For they did not gain possession of the land by their own sword,

Nor did their own arm save them;

But it was Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your countenance,

Because You favored them.

1 God, we have heard about you.

Our ancestors told us

what you did in their days,

in days long ago.

2 With your power you forced the nations out of the land

and placed our ancestors here.

You destroyed those other nations,

but you made our ancestors grow strong.

3 It wasn’t their swords that took the land.

It wasn’t their power that gave them victory.

But it was your great power and strength.

You were with them because you loved them.

1 We have heard with our ears, O God,

Our fathers have told us,

What work thou didst in their days,

In the days of old.

2 Thou didst drive out the nations with thy hand;

But them thou didst plant:

Thou didst afflict the peoples;

But them thou didst spread abroad.

3 For they gat not the land in possession by their own sword,

Neither did their own arm save them;

But thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance,

Because thou wast favorable unto them.

1 O God, with our ears have we heard, our fathers have told us, the work thou wroughtest in their days, in the days of old: 2 Thou, by thy hand, didst dispossess the nations, but them thou didst plant; thou didst afflict the peoples, but them didst thou cause to spread out. 3 For not by their own sword did they take possession of the land, neither did their own arm save them; but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst delight in them.

Our ancestors have told us 

about the miracle you performed in their day, 

in days long ago. 

2 By your power you forced nations ⸤out of the land⸥, 

but you planted our ancestors ⸤there⸥. 

You shattered many groups of people, 

but you set our ancestors free.

3 It was not with their swords that they took possession of the land. 

They did not gain victory with their own strength. 

It was your right hand, your arm, 

and the light of your presence ⸤that did it⸥, 

because you were pleased with them.

the work You accomplished in their days,

in days long ago:

2 to plant them,

You drove out the nations with Your hand;

to settle them,

You crushed the peoples.

3 For they did not take the land by their sword—

their arm did not bring them victory—

but by Your right hand, Your arm,

and the light of Your face,

for You were pleased with them.

our ancestors have told us,

in the days of old:

Rather it was your right hand and your arm

and the light of your presence,

because you delighted in them.

1 God, we have heard what you did.

Those who came before us have told us

what you did in their days,

in days long ago.

2 With your powerful hand you drove out the nations.

You settled our people in the land.

You crushed the people who were there.

And you made our people do well.

3 They didn’t win the land with their swords.

They didn’t gain success with their powerful arms.

Your powerful right hand and your mighty arm gave them success.

You looked on them with favor. You loved them.
