Judges 2:2–6

2 and as for you, ayou shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; byou shall tear down their altars.’ But you have not 1obeyed Me; what is this you have done?

3 “Therefore I also said, ‘aI will not drive them out before you; but they will 1become bas thorns in your sides and their gods will be a snare to you.’ ”

4 When the angel of the Lord spoke these words to all the sons of Israel, the people lifted up their voices and wept.

5 So they named that place 1Bochim; and there they sacrificed to the Lord.

6 aWhen Joshua had dismissed the people, the sons of Israel went each to his inheritance to possess the land.

Judges 2:2–6 — The New International Version (NIV)

and you shall not make a covenant with the people of this land, but you shall break down their altars.’ Yet you have disobeyed me. Why have you done this? And I have also said, ‘I will not drive them out before you; they will become traps for you, and their gods will become snares to you.’ ”

When the angel of the Lord had spoken these things to all the Israelites, the people wept aloud, and they called that place Bokim. There they offered sacrifices to the Lord.

After Joshua had dismissed the Israelites, they went to take possession of the land, each to their own inheritance.

When the angel of the Lord finished speaking to all the Israelites, the people wept loudly. So they called the place Bokim (which means “weeping”), and they offered sacrifices there to the Lord.

After Joshua sent the people away, each of the tribes left to take possession of the land allotted to them.

Joshua sent the people of Israel away. Then they went to take over the land. All of them went to their own shares of land.
