Jeremiah 44:2–4

2 “Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, ‘You yourselves have seen all the calamity that I have brought on Jerusalem and all the cities of Judah; and behold, this day they are in aruins and no one lives in them,

3 abecause of their wickedness which they committed so as to bprovoke Me to anger by continuing to cburn 1sacrifices and to dserve other gods whom they had not known, neither they, you, nor your fathers.

4 ‘Yet I asent you all My servants the prophets, 1again and again, saying, “Oh, do not do this babominable thing which I hate.”

Jeremiah 44:2–4 — The New International Version (NIV)

“This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: You saw the great disaster I brought on Jerusalem and on all the towns of Judah. Today they lie deserted and in ruins because of the evil they have done. They aroused my anger by burning incense to and worshiping other gods that neither they nor you nor your ancestors ever knew. Again and again I sent my servants the prophets, who said, ‘Do not do this detestable thing that I hate!’

They and you and your people of long ago never had anything to do with those gods before.
