Pashhur Persecutes Jeremiah

1 When Pashhur the priest, the son of aImmer, who was bchief officer in the house of the Lord, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things,

2 Pashhur had Jeremiah the prophet abeaten and put him in the bstocks that were at the upper cBenjamin Gate, which was by the house of the Lord.

3 On the next day, when Pashhur released Jeremiah from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him, “Pashhur is not the name the Lord has acalled you, but rather 1bMagor-missabib.

Jeremiah 20:1–3 — The New International Version (NIV)

When the priest Pashhur son of Immer, the official in charge of the temple of the Lord, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things, he had Jeremiah the prophet beaten and put in the stocks at the Upper Gate of Benjamin at the Lord’s temple. The next day, when Pashhur released him from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him, “The Lord’s name for you is not Pashhur, but Terror on Every Side.

The next day Pashhur set me free. I said to him, “The Lord’s name for you isn’t Pashhur. It’s Magor-Missabib. That name means Terror on Every Side.
