These also reel with wine

and stagger with strong drink;

they reel in vision,

they stumble in giving judgment.

For all tables are full of filthy vomit,

with no space left.

But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way;

The priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink,

They are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink;

They err in vision, they stumble in judgment.

For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness,

So that there is no place clean.

Isaiah 28:7–8 — New Living Translation (NLT)

Now, however, Israel is led by drunks

filth is everywhere.

And through intoxicating drink are out of the way;

For all tables are full of vomit and filth;

No place is clean.

they stumble from drinking too much beer.

The priests and prophets are drunk with beer

Every table is covered with vomit,

so there is not a clean place anywhere.

And even these reel with wine, and stagger with strong drink; the priest and the prophet reel with strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they stagger with strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment. For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, so that there is no place clean.

Isaiah 28:7–8 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

But these also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are they gone astray. Priests and prophets stagger from wine and wobble from too much liquor.

They stagger from too much liquor

and become confused from too much wine.

They wobble because of their liquor.

They stagger when they see visions.

They swerve as they judge.

All the tables are covered with vomit and excrement.

There isn’t a clean place left.

they stumble in their judgments.

Indeed, all their tables are covered with vomit;

there is no place without a stench.

for all the tables are full of disgusting vomit, with no place left.

Isaiah 28:7–8 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

Israel’s leaders are drunk from wine.

They can’t walk straight.

They are drunk from beer.

They are unsteady on their feet.

Priests and prophets drink beer.

They can’t walk straight.

They are mixed up from drinking too much wine.

They drink too much beer.

They are unsteady on their feet.

The prophets see visions but don’t really understand them.

The priests aren’t able to make good decisions.

They throw up. All of the tables are covered

with the mess they’ve made.

There isn’t one spot on the tables

that isn’t smelly and dirty.
