Isaiah 17:10–13 — The New International Version (NIV)

10 You have forgotten God your Savior;

you have not remembered the Rock, your fortress.

Therefore, though you set out the finest plants

and plant imported vines,

11 though on the day you set them out, you make them grow,

and on the morning when you plant them, you bring them to bud,

yet the harvest will be as nothing

in the day of disease and incurable pain.

12 Woe to the many nations that rage—

they rage like the raging sea!

Woe to the peoples who roar—

they roar like the roaring of great waters!

13 Although the peoples roar like the roar of surging waters,

when he rebukes them they flee far away,

driven before the wind like chaff on the hills,

like tumbleweed before a gale.

Isaiah 17:10–13 — English Standard Version (ESV)

10 For you have forgotten the God of your salvation

and have not remembered the Rock of your refuge;

therefore, though you plant pleasant plants

and sow the vine-branch of a stranger,

11 though you make them grow on the day that you plant them,

and make them blossom in the morning that you sow,

yet the harvest will flee away

in a day of grief and incurable pain.

12 Ah, the thunder of many peoples;

they thunder like the thundering of the sea!

Ah, the roar of nations;

they roar like the roaring of mighty waters!

13 The nations roar like the roaring of many waters,

but he will rebuke them, and they will flee far away,

chased like chaff on the mountains before the wind

and whirling dust before the storm.

Isaiah 17:10–13 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

10 Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation,

And hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength,

Therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants,

And shalt set it with strange slips:

11 In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow,

And in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish:

But the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.

12 Woe to the multitude of many people,

Which make a noise like the noise of the seas;

And to the rushing of nations,

That make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!

13 The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters:

But God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off,

And shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind,

And like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.

Isaiah 17:10–13 — New Living Translation (NLT)

10 Why? Because you have turned from the God who can save you.

You have forgotten the Rock who can hide you.

So you may plant the finest grapevines

and import the most expensive seedlings.

11 They may sprout on the day you set them out;

yes, they may blossom on the very morning you plant them,

but you will never pick any grapes from them.

Your only harvest will be a load of grief and unrelieved pain.

12 Listen! The armies of many nations

roar like the roaring of the sea.

Hear the thunder of the mighty forces

as they rush forward like thundering waves.

13 But though they thunder like breakers on a beach,

God will silence them, and they will run away.

They will flee like chaff scattered by the wind,

like a tumbleweed whirling before a storm.

Isaiah 17:10–13 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

10 Because you have forgotten the God of your salvation,

And have not been mindful of the Rock of your stronghold,

Therefore you will plant pleasant plants

And set out foreign seedlings;

11 In the day you will make your plant to grow,

And in the morning you will make your seed to flourish;

But the harvest will be a heap of ruins

In the day of grief and desperate sorrow.

12 Woe to the multitude of many people

Who make a noise like the roar of the seas,

And to the rushing of nations

That make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!

13 The nations will rush like the rushing of many waters;

But God will rebuke them and they will flee far away, And be chased like the chaff of the mountains before the wind,

Like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.

Isaiah 17:10–13 — New Century Version (NCV)

10 You have forgotten the God who saves you;

you have not remembered that God is your place of safety.

You plant the finest grapevines

and grapevines from faraway places.

11 You plant your grapevines one day and try to make them grow,

and the next day you make them blossom.

But at harvest time everything will be dead;

a sickness will kill all the plants.

12 Listen to the many people!

Their crying is like the noise from the sea.

Listen to the nations!

Their crying is like the crashing of great waves.

13 The people roar like the waves,

but when God speaks harshly to them, they will run away.

They will be like chaff on the hills being blown by the wind,

or like tumbleweeds blown away by a storm.

Isaiah 17:10–13 — American Standard Version (ASV)

10 For thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength; therefore thou plantest pleasant plants, and settest it with strange slips. 11 In the day of thy planting thou hedgest it in, and in the morning thou makest thy seed to blossom; but the harvest fleeth away in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.

12 Ah, the uproar of many peoples, that roar like the roaring of the seas; and the rushing of nations, that rush like the rushing of mighty waters! 13 The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but he shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like the whirling dust before the storm.

Isaiah 17:10–13 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

10 For thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength; therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plantations, and shalt set them with foreign slips: 11 in the day of thy planting wilt thou make them to grow, and on the morrow wilt thou make thy seed to flourish; but the harvest will flee in the day of taking possession, and the sorrow will be incurable.

12 Ha! a tumult of many peoples! they make a noise as the noise of the seas; —and the rushing of nations! they rush as the rushing of mighty waters. 13 The nations rush as the rushing of many waters; but he will rebuke them, and they shall flee far away, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a whirling of dust before the whirlwind:

Isaiah 17:10–13 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

10 You have forgotten the God of your salvation.

You haven’t remembered the rock, your stronghold.

Instead, you have planted the best plants

and have set out the imported grapevines.

11 On the day you plant, you will make it grow.

On the morning you set out the seedling, you will make it sprout.

But the harvest will become a ⸤rotting⸥ pile

on a day of grief and incurable pain.

12 How horrible it will be for many people!

They will roar like the roaring sea.

The noise that the people make

will be like the noise from rushing water.

13 The people will make noise like raging water.

But the Lord will yell at them, and they will run far away.

They will be chased away

like husks on the mountains being blown by the wind,

like whirling dust being blown by a storm.

Isaiah 17:10–13 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

10 For you have forgotten the God of your salvation,

and you have failed to remember

the rock of your strength;

therefore you will plant beautiful plants

and set out cuttings from exotic vines.

11 On the day that you plant,

you will help them to grow,

and in the morning

you will help your seed to sprout,

but the harvest will vanish

on the day of disease and incurable pain.

12 Ah! The roar of many peoples—

they roar like the roaring of the seas.

The raging of the nations—

they rage like the raging of mighty waters.

13 The nations rage like the raging of many waters.

He rebukes them, and they flee far away,

driven before the wind like chaff on the hills

and like tumbleweeds before a gale.

Isaiah 17:10–13 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

10 For you have forgotten the God of your salvation,

and have not remembered the Rock of your refuge;

therefore, though you plant pleasant plants

and set out slips of an alien god,

11 though you make them grow on the day that you plant them,

and make them blossom in the morning that you sow;

yet the harvest will flee away

in a day of grief and incurable pain.

12 Ah, the thunder of many peoples,

they thunder like the thundering of the sea!

Ah, the roar of nations,

they roar like the roaring of mighty waters!

13 The nations roar like the roaring of many waters,

but he will rebuke them, and they will flee far away,

chased like chaff on the mountains before the wind

and whirling dust before the storm.

Isaiah 17:10–13 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

10 For you have forgotten the God of your salvation,

and you have not remembered the rock of your refuge;

therefore you plant plants of pleasantness,

and you plant a vine of a foreigner.

11 On your planting day you make them grow,

and in the morning of your sowing you bring them into bloom,

yet the harvest will flee in a day of sickness and incurable pain.

12 Ah! The noise of many peoples, they make a noise like the noise of the seas!

And the roar of nations, they roar like the roar of mighty waters!

13 The nations roar like the roar of many waters,

but he will rebuke him, and he will flee far away.

And they are chased like chaff of the mountains before the wind

and like tumbleweed before the storm.

Isaiah 17:10–13 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

10 Israel, you have forgotten God, who saves you.

You have not remembered the Rock, who keeps you safe.

You might set out the finest plants.

You might plant vines from other lands.

11 The plants might start to grow on the day you set them out.

The vines might begin to bud on the morning you plant them.

But even if they do, there won’t be any harvest.

Instead, there will be sickness and pain that won’t go away.

12 How terrible it looks for us!

Many nations are marching against us.

The noise of their armies is like the sound of the ocean.

They are making a lot of noise.

It sounds like huge waves crashing on the shore.

13 It sounds like the roar of rushing waters.

But when the Lord speaks out against them, they run far away.

The wind blows them away like straw on the hills.

A strong wind drives them along like tumbleweeds.
