Isaiah 40:15–17 — The New International Version (NIV)

15 Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket;

they are regarded as dust on the scales;

he weighs the islands as though they were fine dust.

16 Lebanon is not sufficient for altar fires,

nor its animals enough for burnt offerings.

17 Before him all the nations are as nothing;

they are regarded by him as worthless

and less than nothing.

Isaiah 40:15–17 — English Standard Version (ESV)

15 Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket,

and are accounted as the dust on the scales;

behold, he takes up the coastlands like fine dust.

16 Lebanon would not suffice for fuel,

nor are its beasts enough for a burnt offering.

17 All the nations are as nothing before him,

they are accounted by him as less than nothing and emptiness.

Isaiah 40:15–17 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

15 Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket,

And are counted as the small dust of the balance:

Behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.

16 And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn,

Nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering.

17 All nations before him are as nothing;

And they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity.

Isaiah 40:15–17 — New Living Translation (NLT)

15 No, for all the nations of the world

are but a drop in the bucket.

They are nothing more

than dust on the scales.

He picks up the whole earth

as though it were a grain of sand.

16 All the wood in Lebanon’s forests

and all Lebanon’s animals would not be enough

to make a burnt offering worthy of our God.

17 The nations of the world are worth nothing to him.

In his eyes they count for less than nothing—

mere emptiness and froth.

Isaiah 40:15–17 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

15 Behold, the nations are as a drop in a bucket,

And are counted as the small dust on the scales;

Look, He lifts up the isles as a very little thing.

16 And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn,

Nor its beasts sufficient for a burnt offering.

17 All nations before Him are as nothing,

And they are counted by Him less than nothing and worthless.

Isaiah 40:15–17 — New Century Version (NCV)

15 The nations are like one small drop in a bucket;

they are no more than the dust on his measuring scales.

To him the islands are no more than fine dust on his scales.

16 All the trees in Lebanon are not enough for the altar fires,

and all the animals in Lebanon are not enough for burnt offerings.

17 Compared to the Lord all the nations are worth nothing;

to him they are less than nothing.

Isaiah 40:15–17 — American Standard Version (ASV)

15 Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are accounted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing. 16 And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt-offering. 17 All the nations are as nothing before him; they are accounted by him as less than nothing, and vanity.

Isaiah 40:15–17 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

15 Behold, the nations are esteemed as a drop of the bucket, and as the fine dust on the scales; behold, he taketh up the isles as an atom. 16 And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt-offering. 17 All the nations are as nothing before him; they are esteemed by him less than a cipher, and vanity.

Isaiah 40:15–17 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

15 The nations are like a drop in a bucket

and are considered to be like dust on a scale.

The weight of the islands is like fine dust.

16 All the trees in Lebanon are not enough to burn an offering.

Its wild animals are not enough for a single burnt offering.

17 All the nations amount to nothing in his presence.

He considers them less than nothing and worthless.

Isaiah 40:15–17 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

15 Look, the nations are like a drop in a bucket;

they are considered as a speck of dust in the scales;

He lifts up the islands like fine dust.

16 Lebanon is not enough for fuel,

or its animals enough for a burnt offering.

17 All the nations are as nothing before Him;

they are considered by Him

as nothingness and emptiness.

Isaiah 40:15–17 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

15 Even the nations are like a drop from a bucket,

and are accounted as dust on the scales;

see, he takes up the isles like fine dust.

16 Lebanon would not provide fuel enough,

nor are its animals enough for a burnt offering.

17 All the nations are as nothing before him;

they are accounted by him as less than nothing and emptiness.

Isaiah 40:15–17 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

15 Look! The nations are like a drop from a bucket,

and they are counted like dust of the balances!

Look! He weighs the islands like a thin covering.

16 And Lebanon is not enough to light a fire,

and its animals not enough for a burnt offering.

17 All the nations are like nothing before him;

they are counted by him as nothing and emptiness.

Isaiah 40:15–17 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

15 The nations are only a drop in a bucket to him.

He considers them as nothing but dust on the scales.

He weighs the islands as if they were only fine dust.

16 Lebanon doesn’t have enough trees to keep his altar fires burning.

It doesn’t have enough animals to sacrifice as burnt offerings to him.

17 To him, all of the nations don’t amount to anything.

He considers them to be worthless.

In fact, they are less than nothing in his sight.
