Isaiah 30:27–30 — The New International Version (NIV)

27 See, the Name of the Lord comes from afar,

with burning anger and dense clouds of smoke;

his lips are full of wrath,

and his tongue is a consuming fire.

28 His breath is like a rushing torrent,

rising up to the neck.

He shakes the nations in the sieve of destruction;

he places in the jaws of the peoples

a bit that leads them astray.

29 And you will sing

as on the night you celebrate a holy festival;

your hearts will rejoice

as when people playing pipes go up

to the mountain of the Lord,

to the Rock of Israel.

30 The Lord will cause people to hear his majestic voice

and will make them see his arm coming down

with raging anger and consuming fire,

with cloudburst, thunderstorm and hail.

Isaiah 30:27–30 — English Standard Version (ESV)

27 Behold, the name of the Lord comes from afar,

burning with his anger, and in thick rising smoke;

his lips are full of fury,

and his tongue is like a devouring fire;

28 his breath is like an overflowing stream

that reaches up to the neck;

to sift the nations with the sieve of destruction,

and to place on the jaws of the peoples a bridle that leads astray.

29 You shall have a song as in the night when a holy feast is kept, and gladness of heart, as when one sets out to the sound of the flute to go to the mountain of the Lord, to the Rock of Israel. 30 And the Lord will cause his majestic voice to be heard and the descending blow of his arm to be seen, in furious anger and a flame of devouring fire, with a cloudburst and storm and hailstones.

Isaiah 30:27–30 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

27 Behold, the name of the Lord cometh from far,

Burning with his anger, and the burden thereof is heavy:

His lips are full of indignation,

And his tongue as a devouring fire:

28 And his breath, as an overflowing stream,

Shall reach to the midst of the neck,

To sift the nations with the sieve of vanity:

And there shall be a bridle in the jaws of the people, causing them to err.

29 Ye shall have a song, as in the night when a holy solemnity is kept;

And gladness of heart, as when one goeth with a pipe

To come into the mountain of the Lord, to the mighty One of Israel.

30 And the Lord shall cause his glorious voice to be heard,

And shall shew the lighting down of his arm,

With the indignation of his anger,

And with the flame of a devouring fire,

With scattering, and tempest, and hailstones.

Isaiah 30:27–30 — New Living Translation (NLT)

27 Look! The Lord is coming from far away,

burning with anger,

surrounded by thick, rising smoke.

His lips are filled with fury;

his words consume like fire.

28 His hot breath pours out like a flood

up to the neck of his enemies.

He will sift out the proud nations for destruction.

He will bridle them and lead them away to ruin.

29 But the people of God will sing a song of joy,

like the songs at the holy festivals.

You will be filled with joy,

as when a flutist leads a group of pilgrims

to Jerusalem, the mountain of the Lord

to the Rock of Israel.

30 And the Lord will make his majestic voice heard.

He will display the strength of his mighty arm.

It will descend with devouring flames,

with cloudbursts, thunderstorms, and huge hailstones.

Isaiah 30:27–30 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

27 Behold, the name of the Lord comes from afar,

Burning with His anger,

And His burden is heavy;

His lips are full of indignation,

And His tongue like a devouring fire.

28 His breath is like an overflowing stream,

Which reaches up to the neck,

To sift the nations with the sieve of futility;

And there shall be a bridle in the jaws of the people,

Causing them to err.

29 You shall have a song

As in the night when a holy festival is kept,

And gladness of heart as when one goes with a flute,

To come into the mountain of the Lord,

To the Mighty One of Israel.

30 The Lord will cause His glorious voice to be heard,

And show the descent of His arm,

With the indignation of His anger

And the flame of a devouring fire,

With scattering, tempest, and hailstones.

Isaiah 30:27–30 — New Century Version (NCV)

27 Look! The Lord comes from far away.

His anger is like a fire with thick clouds of smoke.

His mouth is filled with anger,

and his tongue is like a burning fire.

28 His breath is like a rushing river,

which rises to the throat.

He will judge the nations as if he is sifting them through the strainer of destruction.

He will place in their mouths a bit that will lead them the wrong way.

29 You will sing happy songs

as on the nights you begin a festival.

You will be happy like people listening to flutes

as they come to the mountain of the Lord,

to the Rock of Israel.

30 The Lord will cause all people to hear his great voice

and to see his powerful arm come down with anger,

like a great fire that burns everything,

like a great storm with much rain and hail.

Isaiah 30:27–30 — American Standard Version (ASV)

27 Behold, the name of Jehovah cometh from far, burning with his anger, and in thick rising smoke: his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue is as a devouring fire; 28 and his breath is as an overflowing stream, that reacheth even unto the neck, to sift the nations with the sieve of destruction: and a bridle that causeth to err shall be in the jaws of the peoples. 29 Ye shall have a song as in the night when a holy feast is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one goeth with a pipe to come unto the mountain of Jehovah, to the Rock of Israel. 30 And Jehovah will cause his glorious voice to be heard, and will show the lighting down of his arm, with the indignation of his anger, and the flame of a devouring fire, with a blast, and tempest, and hailstones.

Isaiah 30:27–30 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

27 Behold, the name of Jehovah cometh from far, burning with his anger—a grievous conflagration; his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue as a consuming fire; 28 and his breath as an overflowing torrent, which reacheth even to the neck, to sift the nations with the sieve of destruction, and to put a bridle into the jaws of the peoples, that causeth them to go astray. 29 Ye shall have a song, as in the night when a feast is sanctified; and joy of heart, as of one who goeth with a pipe to come unto the mountain of Jehovah, to the Rock of Israel. 30 And Jehovah will cause the majesty of his voice to be heard, and will shew the lighting down of his arm with indignation of anger, and a flame of consuming fire, with waterflood and storm and hailstones.

Isaiah 30:27–30 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

27 The name of the Lord is going to come from far away.

His anger is burning.

His burden is heavy.

His lips are filled with fury.

His tongue is like a devouring flame.

28 His breath is like an overflowing stream.

It rises neck high,

sifting the nations with a sieve of destruction,

placing a bit in the mouths of the people

to lead them astray.

29 You will sing a song

like the song you sing on a festival night.

Your hearts will be happy like someone going out with a flute

on the way to the Lord’s mountain, to the rock of Israel.

30 The Lord will make his majestic voice heard.

He will come down with all his might,

with furious anger,

with fire storms, windstorms, rainstorms, and hailstones.

Isaiah 30:27–30 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

27 Look, Yahweh comes from far away,

His anger burning and heavy with smoke.

His lips are full of fury,

and His tongue is like a consuming fire.

28 His breath is like an overflowing torrent

that rises to the neck.

He comes to sift the nations in a sieve of destruction

and to put a bridle on the jaws of the peoples

to lead them astray.

29 Your singing will be like that

on the night of a holy festival,

and your heart will rejoice

like one who walks to the music of a flute,

going up to the mountain of the Lord,

to the Rock of Israel.

30 And the Lord will make the splendor of His voice heard

and reveal His arm striking in angry wrath

and a flame of consuming fire,

in driving rain, a torrent, and hailstones.

Isaiah 30:27–30 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

27 See, the name of the Lord comes from far away,

burning with his anger, and in thick rising smoke;

his lips are full of indignation,

and his tongue is like a devouring fire;

28 his breath is like an overflowing stream

that reaches up to the neck—

to sift the nations with the sieve of destruction,

and to place on the jaws of the peoples a bridle that leads them astray.

29 You shall have a song as in the night when a holy festival is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one sets out to the sound of the flute to go to the mountain of the Lord, to the Rock of Israel. 30 And the Lord will cause his majestic voice to be heard and the descending blow of his arm to be seen, in furious anger and a flame of devouring fire, with a cloudburst and tempest and hailstones.

Isaiah 30:27–30 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

27 Look! The name of Yahweh comes from afar,

burning with his anger and heaviness of cloud.

His lips are full of indignation,

and his tongue is like a devouring fire.

28 And his breath is like an overflowing river;

it reaches up to the neck

to shake the nations with the sieve of worthlessness;

and a bridle that leads astray is on the jawbones of the peoples.

29 You shall have a song as in the night when a holy festival is kept,

and a gladness of heart like one who goes with the flute,

to go to the mountain of Yahweh, to the rock of Israel.

30 And Yahweh will cause the majesty of his voice to be heard,

and he will cause the descent of his arm to be seen,

in furious anger and a flame of devouring fire,

with a cloudburst and a rainstorm and stones of hail.

Isaiah 30:27–30 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

27 The Lord will come from far away

in all of his power and glory.

He will show his burning anger.

Thick clouds of smoke will be all around him.

His mouth will speak angry words.

The words from his tongue will be like a destroying fire.

28 His breath will be like a rushing flood

that rises up to the neck.

He’ll separate out the nations he is going to destroy.

He’ll place a bit in their jaws.

It will lead them down the road to death.

29 You will sing

as you do on the night you celebrate a holy feast.

Your hearts will be filled with joy.

You will be as joyful as people playing their flutes

as they go up to the mountain of the Lord.

He is the Rock of Israel.

30 The Lord will cause people to hear his powerful voice.

He will make them see his arm coming down to punish them.

It will come down with burning anger and destroying fire.

It will come down with rain, thunderstorms and hail.
