Hosea 7:3–7 — The New International Version (NIV)

“They delight the king with their wickedness,

the princes with their lies.

They are all adulterers,

burning like an oven

whose fire the baker need not stir

from the kneading of the dough till it rises.

On the day of the festival of our king

the princes become inflamed with wine,

and he joins hands with the mockers.

Their hearts are like an oven;

they approach him with intrigue.

Their passion smolders all night;

in the morning it blazes like a flaming fire.

All of them are hot as an oven;

they devour their rulers.

All their kings fall,

and none of them calls on me.

Hosea 7:3–7 — English Standard Version (ESV)

By their evil they make the king glad,

and the princes by their treachery.

They are all adulterers;

they are like a heated oven

whose baker ceases to stir the fire,

from the kneading of the dough

until it is leavened.

On the day of our king, the princes

became sick with the heat of wine;

he stretched out his hand with mockers.

For with hearts like an oven they approach their intrigue;

all night their anger smolders;

in the morning it blazes like a flaming fire.

All of them are hot as an oven,

and they devour their rulers.

All their kings have fallen,

and none of them calls upon me.

Hosea 7:3–7 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

They make the king glad with their wickedness,

And the princes with their lies.

They are all adulterers, as an oven heated by the baker,

Who ceaseth from raising after he hath kneaded the dough, until it be leavened.

In the day of our king the princes have made him sick with bottles of wine;

He stretched out his hand with scorners.

For they have made ready their heart like an oven, whiles they lie in wait:

Their baker sleepeth all the night;

In the morning it burneth as a flaming fire.

They are all hot as an oven,

And have devoured their judges;

All their kings are fallen:

There is none among them that calleth unto me.

Hosea 7:3–7 — New Living Translation (NLT)

“The people entertain the king with their wickedness,

and the princes laugh at their lies.

They are all adulterers,

always aflame with lust.

They are like an oven that is kept hot

while the baker is kneading the dough.

On royal holidays, the princes get drunk with wine,

carousing with those who mock them.

Their hearts are like an oven

blazing with intrigue.

Their plot smolders through the night,

and in the morning it breaks out like a raging fire.

Burning like an oven,

they consume their leaders.

They kill their kings one after another,

and no one cries to me for help.

Hosea 7:3–7 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

They make a king glad with their wickedness,

And princes with their lies.

“They are all adulterers.

Like an oven heated by a baker—

He ceases stirring the fire after kneading the dough,

Until it is leavened.

In the day of our king

Princes have made him sick, inflamed with wine;

He stretched out his hand with scoffers.

They prepare their heart like an oven,

While they lie in wait;

Their baker sleeps all night;

In the morning it burns like a flaming fire.

They are all hot, like an oven,

And have devoured their judges;

All their kings have fallen.

None among them calls upon Me.

Hosea 7:3–7 — New Century Version (NCV)

“They make the king happy with their wickedness;

their rulers are glad with their lies.

But all of them are traitors.

They are like an oven heated by a baker.

While he mixes the dough,

he does not need to stir up the fire.

The kings get so drunk they get sick every day.

The rulers become crazy with wine;

they make agreements with those who do not know the true God.

They burn like an oven;

their hearts burn inside them.

All night long their anger is low,

but when morning comes, it becomes a roaring fire.

All these people are as hot as an oven;

they burn up their rulers.

All their kings fall,

and no one calls on me.

Hosea 7:3–7 — American Standard Version (ASV)

They make the king glad with their wickedness, and the princes with their lies. They are all adulterers; they are as an oven heated by the baker; he ceaseth to stir the fire, from the kneading of the dough, until it be leavened. On the day of our king the princes made themselves sick with the heat of wine; he stretched out his hand with scoffers. For they have made ready their heart like an oven, while they lie in wait: their baker sleepeth all the night; in the morning it burneth as a flaming fire. They are all hot as an oven, and devour their judges; all their kings are fallen: there is none among them that calleth unto me.

Hosea 7:3–7 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

They make the king glad with their wickedness, and the princes with their lies. They all practise adultery, as an oven heated by the baker: he ceaseth from stirring the fire after he hath kneaded the dough, until it be leavened. In the day of our king, the princes made themselves sick with the heat of wine: he stretched out his hand to scorners. For they have applied their heart like an oven to their lying in wait: their baker sleepeth all the night; in the morning it burneth like a flaming fire. They are all hot as an oven, and devour their judges; all their kings are fallen: there is none among them that calleth unto me.

Hosea 7:3–7 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

“They make kings happy with the wicked things they do.

They make officials happy with the lies they tell.

They all commit adultery.

They are like a heated oven,

an oven so hot that a baker doesn’t have to fan its flames

when he makes bread.

On the day of the king’s celebration,

the officials become drunk from wine,

and the king joins mockers.

They become hot like an oven while they lie in ambush.

All night long their anger smolders,

but in the morning it burns like a raging fire.

They are all as hot as an oven.

They consume their judges ⸤like a fire⸥.

All their kings die in battle, and none of them calls to me.

Hosea 7:3–7 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

They please the king with their evil,

the princes with their lies.

All of them commit adultery;

they are like an oven heated by a baker

who stops stirring the fire

from the kneading of the dough until it is leavened.

On the day of our king,

the princes are sick with the heat of wine —

there is a conspiracy with traitors.

For they—their hearts like an oven—

draw him into their oven.

Their anger smolders all night;

in the morning it blazes like a flaming fire.

All of them are as hot as an oven,

and they consume their rulers.

All their kings fall;

not one of them calls on Me.

Hosea 7:3–7 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

By their wickedness they make the king glad,

and the officials by their treachery.

They are all adulterers;

they are like a heated oven,

whose baker does not need to stir the fire,

from the kneading of the dough until it is leavened.

On the day of our king the officials

became sick with the heat of wine;

he stretched out his hand with mockers.

For they are kindled like an oven, their heart burns within them;

all night their anger smolders;

in the morning it blazes like a flaming fire.

All of them are hot as an oven,

and they devour their rulers.

All their kings have fallen;

none of them calls upon me.

Hosea 7:3–7 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

By their wickedness they make the king glad,

and the officials by their treacheries.

All of them commit adultery,

like a burning oven

whose baker has stopped from stirring the fire,

and from kneading the dough until it is leavened.

On the day of our king, the princes

became sick with the heat of wine;

he stretched out his hand with mockers.

Because they are kindled like an oven,

their heart burns within them;

all night their anger smolders,

in the morning it blazes like a flaming fire.

All of them are hot as an oven,

and they devour their rulers.

All their kings have fallen;

there is none who calls to me amongst them.

Hosea 7:3–7 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

“Their evil conduct even makes the king glad.

Their lies make the princes happy.

But all of the people are unfaithful to the king.

Their anger against him burns

like the coals in an oven.

The baker does not even need to stir up the fire

until the dough is ready.”

On special days to honor our king,

the princes get drunk with wine.

And the king enjoys the party.

He joins hands with those

who pretend to be faithful to him.

Their hearts are as hot as an oven.

They make evil plans to get rid of him.

Their anger burns like a slow fire all night.

In the morning it blazes out like a flaming fire.

All of them are as hot as an oven.

They destroy their rulers.

All of their kings fall from power.

But none of them calls on the Lord for help.
