9 “ ‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“ ‘Woe to the city of bloodshed!

I, too, will pile the wood high.

10 So heap on the wood

and kindle the fire.

Cook the meat well,

mixing in the spices;

and let the bones be charred.

11 Then set the empty pot on the coals

till it becomes hot and its copper glows,

so that its impurities may be melted

and its deposit burned away.

12 It has frustrated all efforts;

its heavy deposit has not been removed,

not even by fire.

13 “ ‘Now your impurity is lewdness. Because I tried to cleanse you but you would not be cleansed from your impurity, you will not be clean again until my wrath against you has subsided.

9 Therefore thus says the Lord God: Woe to the bloody city! I also will make the pile great. 10 Heap on the logs, kindle the fire, boil the meat well, mix in the spices, and let the bones be burned up. 11 Then set it empty upon the coals, that it may become hot, and its copper may burn, that its uncleanness may be melted in it, its corrosion consumed. 12 She has wearied herself with toil; its abundant corrosion does not go out of it. Into the fire with its corrosion! 13 On account of your unclean lewdness, because I would have cleansed you and you were not cleansed from your uncleanness, you shall not be cleansed anymore till I have satisfied my fury upon you.

9 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Woe to the bloody city! I will even make the pile for fire great. 10 Heap on wood, kindle the fire, consume the flesh, and spice it well, and let the bones be burned. 11 Then set it empty upon the coals thereof, that the brass of it may be hot, and may burn, and that the filthiness of it may be molten in it, that the scum of it may be consumed. 12 She hath wearied herself with lies, and her great scum went not forth out of her: her scum shall be in the fire. 13 In thy filthiness is lewdness: because I have purged thee, and thou wast not purged, thou shalt not be purged from thy filthiness any more, till I have caused my fury to rest upon thee.

9 “This is what the Sovereign Lord says:

What sorrow awaits Jerusalem,

the city of murderers!

I myself will pile up the fuel beneath her.

10 Yes, heap on the wood!

Let the fire roar to make the pot boil.

Cook the meat with many spices,

and afterward burn the bones.

11 Now set the empty pot on the coals.

Heat it red hot!

Burn away the filth and corruption.

12 But it’s hopeless;

the corruption can’t be cleaned out.

So throw it into the fire.

13 Your impurity is your lewdness

and the corruption of your idolatry.

I tried to cleanse you,

but you refused.

So now you will remain in your filth

until my fury against you has been satisfied.

9 ‘Therefore thus says the Lord God:

“Woe to the bloody city!

I too will make the pyre great.

10 Heap on the wood,

Kindle the fire;

Cook the meat well,

Mix in the spices,

And let the cuts be burned up.

11 “Then set the pot empty on the coals,

That it may become hot and its bronze may burn,

That its filthiness may be melted in it,

That its scum may be consumed.

12 She has grown weary with lies,

And her great scum has not gone from her.

Let her scum be in the fire!

13 In your filthiness is lewdness.

Because I have cleansed you, and you were not cleansed,

You will not be cleansed of your filthiness anymore,

Till I have caused My fury to rest upon you.

9 “ ‘So this is what the Lord God says:

How terrible it will be for the city of murderers!

I myself will pile the wood high for burning.

10 Pile up the wood

and light the fire.

Finish cooking the meat.

Mix in the spices,

and let the bones burn.

11 Then set the empty pot on the coals

so it may become hot and its copper sides glow.

The dirty scum stuck inside it may then melt

and its rust burn away.

12 But efforts to clean the pot have failed.

Its heavy rust cannot be removed,

even in the fire.

13 “ ‘By your sinful action you have become unclean. I wanted to cleanse you, but you are still unclean. You will never be cleansed from your sin until my anger against you is carried out.

9 Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Woe to the bloody city! I also will make the pile great. 10 Heap on the wood, make the fire hot, boil well the flesh, and make thick the broth, and let the bones be burned. 11 Then set it empty upon the coals thereof, that it may be hot, and the brass thereof may burn, and that the filthiness of it may be molten in it, that the rust of it may be consumed. 12 She hath wearied herself with toil; yet her great rust goeth not forth out of her; her rust goeth not forth by fire. 13 In thy filthiness is lewdness: because I have cleansed thee and thou wast not cleansed, thou shalt not be cleansed from thy filthiness any more, till I have caused my wrath toward thee to rest.

9 “ ‘This is what the Almighty Lord says: 

How horrible it will be for that city of murderers. 

I, too, will pile the wood high. 

10 Pile it high, and light the fire. 

Cook the meat thoroughly, stir the mixture, 

and let the bones burn. 

11 Then set the empty pot on the coals 

so that it gets hot and its copper glows. 

Its impurities will melt away, 

and its tarnish will burn off. 

12 “ ‘I have worn myself out trying to clean this pot. Even the fire can’t take away its thick tarnish. 13 I tried to clean you of your filthy lust, but you wouldn’t clean yourself from your filth. You will never be clean until I unleash my fury on you.

9 Therefore, this is what the Lord God says:

Woe to the city of bloodshed!

I Myself will make the pile of kindling large.

10 Pile on the logs and kindle the fire!

Cook the meat well

and mix in the spices!

Let the bones be burned!

11 Set the empty pot on its coals

so that it becomes hot and its copper glows.

Then its impurity will melt inside it;

its rust will be consumed.

12 It has frustrated every effort;

its thick rust will not come off.

Into the fire with its rust!

13 Because of the indecency of your uncleanness—

since I tried to purify you,

but you would not be purified from your uncleanness—

you will not be pure again

until I have satisfied My wrath on you.

9 Therefore thus says the Lord God:

Woe to the bloody city!

I will even make the pile great.

10 Heap up the logs, kindle the fire;

boil the meat well, mix in the spices,

let the bones be burned.

11 Stand it empty upon the coals,

so that it may become hot, its copper glow,

its filth melt in it, its rust be consumed.

12 In vain I have wearied myself;

its thick rust does not depart.

To the fire with its rust!

13 Yet, when I cleansed you in your filthy lewdness,

you did not become clean from your filth;

you shall not again be cleansed

until I have satisfied my fury upon you.

9 Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: “Woe to the city of bloodguilt! I, even I, will make the pile of wood great! 10 Pile up the logs; kindle the fire; finish cooking the meat, and mix in the spices, and let the bones be burned. 11 And make it stand empty upon its burning coals so that it may become hot, and its copper may become molten and be melted in the midst of it, so that its uncleanness and its rust be consumed. 12 Through effort she has caused weariness; its thick rust went not out of it. Its rust! Into the fire with its rust! 13 In your uncleanness is obscene conduct, because I cleansed you, but you were not clean from your uncleanness; you will not be clean again until I fully vent my rage on you.

9 So the Lord and King said to me,

“How terrible it will be for this city!

It has so many murderers in it.

I too will pile the wood high.

10 So pile on the wood.

Light the fire.

Cook the meat well.

Mix in the spices.

Let the bones be blackened.

11 Then set the empty pot on the coals.

Let it get hot. Let its copper glow.

Then what is not pure in it will melt.

Its scum will be burned away.

12 But it can’t be cleaned up.

Its thick scum has not been removed.

Even fire can’t burn it off.

13 “Jerusalem, you are really impure. I tried to clean you up. But you would not let me make you pure. So you will not be clean again until my burning anger against you has calmed down.
