Exodus 15

1 Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the Lord:

“I will sing to the Lord,

for he is highly exalted.

Both horse and driver

he has hurled into the sea.

2 “The Lord is my strength and my defense;

he has become my salvation.

He is my God, and I will praise him,

my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

3 The Lord is a warrior;

the Lord is his name.

4 Pharaoh’s chariots and his army

he has hurled into the sea.

The best of Pharaoh’s officers

are drowned in the Red Sea.

5 The deep waters have covered them;

they sank to the depths like a stone.

6 Your right hand, Lord,

was majestic in power.

Your right hand, Lord,

shattered the enemy.

7 “In the greatness of your majesty

you threw down those who opposed you.

You unleashed your burning anger;

it consumed them like stubble.

8 By the blast of your nostrils

the waters piled up.

The surging waters stood up like a wall;

the deep waters congealed in the heart of the sea.

9 The enemy boasted,

‘I will pursue, I will overtake them.

I will divide the spoils;

I will gorge myself on them.

I will draw my sword

and my hand will destroy them.’

10 But you blew with your breath,

and the sea covered them.

They sank like lead

in the mighty waters.

11 Who among the gods

is like you, Lord?

Who is like you—

majestic in holiness,

awesome in glory,

working wonders?

12 “You stretch out your right hand,

and the earth swallows your enemies.

13 In your unfailing love you will lead

the people you have redeemed.

In your strength you will guide them

to your holy dwelling.

14 The nations will hear and tremble;

anguish will grip the people of Philistia.

15 The chiefs of Edom will be terrified,

the leaders of Moab will be seized with trembling,

the people of Canaan will melt away;

16 terror and dread will fall on them.

By the power of your arm

they will be as still as a stone—

until your people pass by, Lord,

until the people you bought pass by.

17 You will bring them in and plant them

on the mountain of your inheritance—

the place, Lord, you made for your dwelling,

the sanctuary, Lord, your hands established.

18 “The Lord reigns

for ever and ever.”

19 When Pharaoh’s horses, chariots and horsemen went into the sea, the Lord brought the waters of the sea back over them, but the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground. 20 Then Miriam the prophet, Aaron’s sister, took a timbrel in her hand, and all the women followed her, with timbrels and dancing. 21 Miriam sang to them:

“Sing to the Lord,

for he is highly exalted.

Both horse and driver

he has hurled into the sea.”

22 Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea and they went into the Desert of Shur. For three days they traveled in the desert without finding water. 23 When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter. (That is why the place is called Marah.) 24 So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?”

25 Then Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became fit to drink.

There the Lord issued a ruling and instruction for them and put them to the test. 26 He said, “If you listen carefully to the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you.”

27 Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs and seventy palm trees, and they camped there near the water.

2 The Lord is my strength and my song,

the Lord is his name.

4 “Pharaoh’s chariots and his host he cast into the sea,

and his chosen officers were sunk in the Red Sea.

5 The floods covered them;

they went down into the depths like a stone.

6 Your right hand, O Lord, glorious in power,

your right hand, O Lord, shatters the enemy.

7 In the greatness of your majesty you overthrow your adversaries;

you send out your fury; it consumes them like stubble.

8 At the blast of your nostrils the waters piled up;

the floods stood up in a heap;

the deeps congealed in the heart of the sea.

9 The enemy said, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake,

I will divide the spoil, my desire shall have its fill of them.

I will draw my sword; my hand shall destroy them.’

10 You blew with your wind; the sea covered them;

they sank like lead in the mighty waters.

11 “Who is like you, O Lord, among the gods?

Who is like you, majestic in holiness,

awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders?

12 You stretched out your right hand;

the earth swallowed them.

13 “You have led in your steadfast love the people whom you have redeemed;

you have guided them by your strength to your holy abode.

14 The peoples have heard; they tremble;

pangs have seized the inhabitants of Philistia.

15 Now are the chiefs of Edom dismayed;

trembling seizes the leaders of Moab;

all the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away.

16 Terror and dread fall upon them;

because of the greatness of your arm, they are still as a stone,

till your people, O Lord, pass by,

till the people pass by whom you have purchased.

17 You will bring them in and plant them on your own mountain,

the place, O Lord, which you have made for your abode,

the sanctuary, O Lord, which your hands have established.

18 The Lord will reign forever and ever.”

19 For when the horses of Pharaoh with his chariots and his horsemen went into the sea, the Lord brought back the waters of the sea upon them, but the people of Israel walked on dry ground in the midst of the sea. 20 Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women went out after her with tambourines and dancing. 21 And Miriam sang to them:

“Sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously;

the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.”

22 Then Moses made Israel set out from the Red Sea, and they went into the wilderness of Shur. They went three days in the wilderness and found no water. 23 When they came to Marah, they could not drink the water of Marah because it was bitter; therefore it was named Marah. 24 And the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” 25 And he cried to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a log, and he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet.

There the Lord made for them a statute and a rule, and there he tested them, 26 saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your healer.”

27 Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees, and they encamped there by the water.

I will sing unto the Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously:

The horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.

2 The Lord is my strength and song,

And he is become my salvation:

He is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation;

My father’s God, and I will exalt him.

3 The Lord is a man of war: the Lord is his name.

4 Pharaoh’s chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea:

His chosen captains also are drowned in the Red sea.

5 The depths have covered them:

They sank into the bottom as a stone.

6 Thy right hand, O Lord, is become glorious in power:

Thy right hand, O Lord, hath dashed in pieces the enemy.

7 And in the greatness of thine excellency thou hast overthrown them that rose up against thee:

Thou sentest forth thy wrath, which consumed them as stubble.

8 And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together,

The floods stood upright as an heap,

And the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea.

9 The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake,

I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them;

I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.

10 Thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them:

They sank as lead in the mighty waters.

11 Who is like unto thee, O Lord, among the gods?

Who is like thee, glorious in holiness,

Fearful in praises, doing wonders?

12 Thou stretchedst out thy right hand,

The earth swallowed them.

13 Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed:

Thou hast guided them in thy strength unto thy holy habitation.

14 The people shall hear, and be afraid:

Sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Palestina.

15 Then the dukes of Edom shall be amazed;

The mighty men of Moab, trembling shall take hold upon them;

All the inhabitants of Canaan shall melt away.

16 Fear and dread shall fall upon them;

By the greatness of thine arm they shall be as still as a stone;

Till thy people pass over, O Lord,

Till the people pass over, which thou hast purchased.

17 Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance,

In the place, O Lord, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in,

In the Sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established.

18 The Lord shall reign for ever and ever.

19 For the horse of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and the Lord brought again the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea. 20 And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. 21 And Miriam answered them,

Sing ye to the Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously;

The horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.

22 So Moses brought Israel from the Red sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water. 23 And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah. 24 And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink? 25 And he cried unto the Lord; and the Lord shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them, 26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee. 27 And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water, and threescore and ten palm trees: and they encamped there by the waters.

1 Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the Lord:

“I will sing to the Lord,

for he has triumphed gloriously;

he has hurled both horse and rider

into the sea.

2 The Lord is my strength and my song;

he has given me victory.

This is my God, and I will praise him—

my father’s God, and I will exalt him!

3 The Lord is a warrior;

Yahweh is his name!

4 Pharaoh’s chariots and army

he has hurled into the sea.

The finest of Pharaoh’s officers

are drowned in the Red Sea.

5 The deep waters gushed over them;

they sank to the bottom like a stone.

6 “Your right hand, O Lord,

is glorious in power.

Your right hand, O Lord,

smashes the enemy.

7 In the greatness of your majesty,

you overthrow those who rise against you.

You unleash your blazing fury;

it consumes them like straw.

8 At the blast of your breath,

the waters piled up!

The surging waters stood straight like a wall;

in the heart of the sea the deep waters became hard.

9 “The enemy boasted, ‘I will chase them

and catch up with them.

I will plunder them

and consume them.

I will flash my sword;

my powerful hand will destroy them.’

10 But you blew with your breath,

and the sea covered them.

They sank like lead

in the mighty waters.

11 “Who is like you among the gods, O Lord—

glorious in holiness,

awesome in splendor,

performing great wonders?

12 You raised your right hand,

and the earth swallowed our enemies.

13 “With your unfailing love you lead

the people you have redeemed.

In your might, you guide them

to your sacred home.

14 The peoples hear and tremble;

anguish grips those who live in Philistia.

15 The leaders of Edom are terrified;

the nobles of Moab tremble.

All who live in Canaan melt away;

16 terror and dread fall upon them.

The power of your arm

makes them lifeless as stone

until your people pass by, O Lord,

until the people you purchased pass by.

17 You will bring them in and plant them on your own mountain—

the place, O Lord, reserved for your own dwelling,

the sanctuary, O Lord, that your hands have established.

18 The Lord will reign forever and ever!”

19 When Pharaoh’s horses, chariots, and charioteers rushed into the sea, the Lord brought the water crashing down on them. But the people of Israel had walked through the middle of the sea on dry ground!

20 Then Miriam the prophet, Aaron’s sister, took a tambourine and led all the women as they played their tambourines and danced. 21 And Miriam sang this song:

“Sing to the Lord,

for he has triumphed gloriously;

he has hurled both horse and rider

into the sea.”

22 Then Moses led the people of Israel away from the Red Sea, and they moved out into the desert of Shur. They traveled in this desert for three days without finding any water. 23 When they came to the oasis of Marah, the water was too bitter to drink. So they called the place Marah (which means “bitter”).

24 Then the people complained and turned against Moses. “What are we going to drink?” they demanded. 25 So Moses cried out to the Lord for help, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. Moses threw it into the water, and this made the water good to drink.

It was there at Marah that the Lord set before them the following decree as a standard to test their faithfulness to him. 26 He said, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his sight, obeying his commands and keeping all his decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the Lord who heals you.”

27 After leaving Marah, the Israelites traveled on to the oasis of Elim, where they found twelve springs and seventy palm trees. They camped there beside the water.

1 Then Moses and the children of Israel sang this song to the Lord, and spoke, saying:

“I will sing to the Lord,

For He has triumphed gloriously!

The horse and its rider

He has thrown into the sea!

2 The Lord is my strength and song,

And He has become my salvation;

He is my God, and I will praise Him;

My father’s God, and I will exalt Him.

3 The Lord is a man of war;

The Lord is His name.

4 Pharaoh’s chariots and his army He has cast into the sea;

His chosen captains also are drowned in the Red Sea.

5 The depths have covered them;

They sank to the bottom like a stone.

7 And in the greatness of Your excellence

You have overthrown those who rose against You;

You sent forth Your wrath;

The floods stood upright like a heap;

The depths congealed in the heart of the sea.

9 The enemy said, ‘I will pursue,

I will overtake,

I will divide the spoil;

My desire shall be satisfied on them.

I will draw my sword,

My hand shall destroy them.’

10 You blew with Your wind,

The sea covered them;

They sank like lead in the mighty waters.

11 “Who is like You, O Lord, among the gods?

Who is like You, glorious in holiness,

Fearful in praises, doing wonders?

He has thrown the horse and its rider

into the sea.

2 The Lord gives me strength and makes me sing;

he has saved me.

He is my God,

and I will praise him.

He is the God of my ancestors,

and I will honor him.

3 The Lord is a warrior;

the Lord is his name.

4 The chariots and soldiers of the king of Egypt

he has thrown into the sea.

The king’s best officers

are drowned in the Red Sea.

5 The deep waters covered them,

and they sank to the bottom like a rock.

6 Your right hand, Lord,

is amazingly strong.

Lord, your right hand

broke the enemy to pieces.

7 In your great victory

you destroyed those who were against you.

Your anger destroyed them,

like fire burning straw.

8 Just a blast of your breath,

and the waters piled up.

The moving water stood like a wall;

the deep waters became solid in the middle of the sea.

9 “The enemy bragged,

‘I’ll chase them and catch them.

I’ll take all their riches;

I’ll take all I want.

I’ll pull out my sword,

and my hand will destroy them.’

10 But you blew on them with your breath

and covered them with the sea.

They sank like lead

in the raging water.

11 “Are there any gods like you, Lord?

There are no gods like you.

You are wonderfully holy,

amazingly powerful,

a worker of miracles.

12 You reached out with your right hand,

and the earth swallowed our enemies.

13 You keep your loving promise

and lead the people you have saved.

With your strength you will guide them

to your holy place.

14 “The other nations will hear this and tremble with fear;

terror will take hold of the Philistines.

15 The leaders of the tribes of Edom will be very frightened;

the powerful men of Moab will shake with fear;

the people of Canaan will lose all their courage.

16 Terror and horror will fall on them.

When they see your strength,

they will be as still as a rock.

They will be still until your people pass by, Lord.

They will be still until the people you have taken as your own pass by.

17 You will lead your people and place them

on your very own mountain,

the place that you, Lord, made for yourself to live,

the temple, Lord, that your hands have made.

18 The Lord will be king forever!”

19 The horses, chariot drivers, and chariots of the king of Egypt went into the sea, and the Lord covered them with water from the sea. But the Israelites walked through the sea on dry land. 20 Then Aaron’s sister Miriam, a prophetess, took a tambourine in her hand. All the women followed her, playing tambourines and dancing. 21 Miriam told them:

“Sing to the Lord,

because he is worthy of great honor;

he has thrown the horse and its rider

into the sea.”

22 Moses led the Israelites away from the Red Sea into the Desert of Shur. They traveled for three days in the desert but found no water. 23 Then they came to Marah, where there was water, but they could not drink it because it was too bitter. (That is why the place was named Marah. ) 24 The people grumbled to Moses and asked, “What will we drink?”

25 So Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree. When Moses threw the tree into the water, the water became good to drink.

There the Lord gave the people a rule and a law to live by, and there he tested their loyalty to him. 26 He said, “You must obey the Lord your God and do what he says is right. If you obey all his commands and keep his rules, I will not bring on you any of the sicknesses I brought on the Egyptians. I am the Lord who heals you.”

27 Then the people traveled to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees. So the people camped there near the water.

I will sing unto Jehovah, for he hath triumphed gloriously:

The horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.

2 Jehovah is my strength and song,

And he is become my salvation:

This is my God, and I will praise him;

My father’s God, and I will exalt him.

3 Jehovah is a man of war:

Jehovah is his name.

4 Pharaoh’s chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea;

1 Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song to Jehovah, and spoke, saying, I will sing unto Jehovah, for he is highly exalted: The horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea. 2 My strength and song is Jah, and he is become my salvation: This is my •God, and I will glorify him; My father’s God, and I will extol him. 3 Jehovah is a man of war; Jehovah, his name. 4 Pharaoh’s chariots and his army hath he cast into the sea; His chosen captains also are drowned in the Red Sea. 5 The depths covered them; they sank to the bottom as a stone. 6 Thy right hand, Jehovah, is become glorious in power: Thy right hand, Jehovah, hath dashed in pieces the enemy. 7 And by the greatness of thine excellency thou hast overthrown thine adversaries: Thou sentest forth thy burning wrath, it consumed them as stubble. 8 And by the breath of thy nostrils the waters were heaped up; The streams stood as a mound; The depths were congealed in the heart of the sea. 9 The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my soul shall be sated upon them; I will unsheath my sword, my hand shall dispossess them. 10 Thou didst blow with thy breath, the sea covered them; They sank as lead in the mighty waters. 11 Who is like unto thee, Jehovah, among the gods? Who is like unto thee, glorifying thyself in holiness, Fearful in praises, doing wonders? 12 Thou stretchedst out thy right hand, the earth swallowed them. 13 Thou by thy mercy hast led forth the people that thou hast redeemed; Thou hast guided them by thy strength unto the abode of thy holiness. 14 The peoples heard it, they were afraid: A thrill seized the inhabitants of Philistia. 15 Then the princes of Edom were amazed; The mighty men of Moab, trembling hath seized them; All the inhabitants of Canaan melted away. 16 Fear and dread fall upon them; By the greatness of thine arm they are still as a stone; Till thy people pass over, Jehovah, Till the people pass over that thou hast purchased. 17 Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, The place that thou, Jehovah, hast made thy dwelling, The Sanctuary, Lord, that thy hands have prepared. 18 Jehovah shall reign for ever and ever! 19 For the horse of Pharaoh, with his chariots and with his horsemen, came into the sea, and Jehovah brought again the waters of the sea upon them; and the children of Israel went on dry ground through the midst of the sea. 20 And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took the tambour in her hand, and all the women went out after her with tambours and with dances. 21 And Miriam answered them, Sing to Jehovah, for he is highly exalted: The horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.

22 And Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water. 23 And they came to Marah, and could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter; therefore the name of it was called Marah. 24 And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink? 25 And he cried to Jehovah; and Jehovah shewed him wood, and he cast it into the waters, and the waters became sweet. There he made for them a statute and an ordinance; and there he tested them. 26 And he said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of Jehovah thy God, and do what is right in his eyes, and incline thine ears to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the complaints upon thee that I have put upon the Egyptians; for I am Jehovah who healeth thee. 27 And they came to Elim; and twelve springs of water were there, and seventy palm trees; and they encamped there by the waters.

1 Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the Lord: 

“I will sing to the Lord. 

He has won a glorious victory. 

He has thrown horses and their riders into the sea. 

2 The Lord is my strength and my song. 

He is my Savior. 

This is my God, and I will praise him, 

my father’s God, and I will honor him. 

3 The Lord is a warrior! 

The Lord is his name. 

4 He has thrown Pharaoh’s chariots and army into the sea. 

Pharaoh’s best officers were drowned in the Red Sea. 

5 The deep water covered them. 

They sank to the bottom like a rock. 

6 Your right hand, O Lord, wins glory because it is strong. 

Your right hand, O Lord, smashes your enemies. 

7 With your unlimited majesty, you destroyed those who attacked you. 

You sent out your burning anger. 

It burned them up like straw. 

8 With a blast from your nostrils, the water piled up. 

The waves stood up like a dam. 

The deep water thickened in the middle of the sea. 

9 “The enemy said, ‘I’ll pursue them! 

I’ll catch up with them! 

I’ll divide the loot! 

I’ll take all I want! 

I’ll use my sword! 

I’ll take all they have!’ 

10 Your breath blew the sea over them. 

They sank like lead in the raging water. 

11 “Who is like you among the gods, O Lord? 

Who is like you? 

You are glorious because of your holiness 

and awe-inspiring because of your splendor. 

You perform miracles. 

12 You stretched out your right hand. 

The earth swallowed them. 

13 “Lovingly, you will lead the people you have saved. 

Powerfully, you will guide them to your holy dwelling. 

14 People will hear of it and tremble. 

The people of Philistia will be in anguish. 

15 The tribal leaders of Edom will be terrified. 

The powerful men of Moab will tremble. 

The people of Canaan will be deathly afraid. 

16 Terror and dread will fall on them. 

Because of the power of your arm, they will be petrified 

until your people pass by, O Lord, 

until the people you purchased pass by. 

17 You will bring them and plant them on your own mountain, 

the place where you live, O Lord, 

the holy place that you built with your own hands, O Lord. 

18 The Lord will rule as king forever and ever.” 

19 When Pharaoh’s horses, chariots, and cavalry went into the sea, the Lord made the water of the sea flow back over them. However, the Israelites had gone through the sea on dry ground. 

20 Then the prophet Miriam, Aaron’s sister, took a tambourine in her hand. All the women, dancing with tambourines, followed her. 21 Miriam sang to them: 

“Sing to the Lord. 

He has won a glorious victory. 

He has thrown horses and their riders into the sea.” 

22 Moses led Israel away from the Red Sea into the desert of Shur. For three days they traveled in the desert without finding water. 23 When they came to Marah, they couldn’t drink the water because it tasted bitter. That’s why the place was called Marah [Bitter Place]. 24 The people complained about Moses by asking, “What are we supposed to drink?” 

25 Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showedhim a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became sweet. 

There the Lord set down laws and rules for them to live by, and there he tested them. 26 He said, “If you will listen carefully to the Lord your God and do what he considers right, if you pay attention to his commands and obey all his laws, I will never make you suffer any of the diseases I made the Egyptians suffer, because I am the Lord, who heals you.” 

27 Next, they went to Elim, where there were 12 springs and 70 palm trees. They camped there by the water. 

1 Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the Lord. They said:

I will sing to the Lord,

for He is highly exalted;

He has thrown the horse

and its rider into the sea.

2 The Lord is my strength and my song;

He has become my salvation.

the elite of his officers

they sank to the depths like a stone.

Lord, Your right hand shattered the enemy.

7 You overthrew Your adversaries

by Your great majesty.

You unleashed Your burning wrath;

it consumed them like stubble.

8 The waters heaped up at the blast of Your nostrils;

the currents stood firm like a dam.

The watery depths congealed in the heart of the sea.

9 The enemy said:

“I will pursue, I will overtake,

I will divide the spoil.

My desire will be gratified at their expense.

I will draw my sword;

my hand will destroy them.”

10 But You blew with Your breath,

and the sea covered them.

They sank like lead

in the mighty waters.

11 Lord, who is like You among the gods?

Who is like You, glorious in holiness,

revered with praises, performing wonders?

12 You stretched out Your right hand,

and the earth swallowed them.

13 You will lead the people

You have redeemed

with Your faithful love;

You will guide them to Your holy dwelling

with Your strength.

14 When the peoples hear, they will shudder;

anguish will seize the inhabitants of Philistia.

15 Then the chiefs of Edom will be terrified;

trembling will seize the leaders of Moab;

the inhabitants of Canaan will panic;

16 and terror and dread will fall on them.

They will be as still as a stone

because of Your powerful arm

until Your people pass by, Lord,

until the people whom You purchased pass by.

17 You will bring them in and plant them

on the mountain of Your possession;

Lord, You have prepared the place

for Your dwelling;

Lord, Your hands have established the sanctuary.

18 The Lord will reign forever and ever!

19 When Pharaoh’s horses with his chariots and horsemen went into the sea, the Lord brought the waters of the sea back over them. But the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground. 20 Then Miriam the prophetess, Aaron’s sister, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women followed her with their tambourines and danced. 21 Miriam sang to them:

Sing to the Lord,

for He is highly exalted;

He has thrown the horse

and its rider into the sea.

22 Then Moses led Israel on from the Red Sea, and they went out to the Wilderness of Shur. They journeyed for three days in the wilderness without finding water. 23 They came to Marah, but they could not drink the water at Marah because it was bitter—that is why it was named Marah. 24 The people grumbled to Moses, “What are we going to drink?” 25 So he cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree. When he threw it into the water, the water became drinkable.

He made a statute and ordinance for them at Marah and He tested them there. 26 He said, “If you will carefully obey the Lord your God, do what is right in His eyes, pay attention to His commands, and keep all His statutes, I will not inflict any illnesses on you that I inflicted on the Egyptians. For I am Yahweh who heals you.”

27 Then they came to Elim, where there were 12 springs of water and 70 date palms, and they camped there by the waters.

1 Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the Lord:

“I will sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously;

horse and rider he has thrown into the sea.

2 The Lord is my strength and my might,

and he has become my salvation;

this is my God, and I will praise him;

my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

3 The Lord is a warrior;

the Lord is his name.

4 Pharaoh’s chariots and his army he cast into the sea;

his elite officers were sunk in the Red Sea.

5 The floods covered them;

they went down into the depths like a stone.

6 Your right hand, O Lord, glorious in power—

the place, O Lord, that you made your abode,

the sanctuary, O Lord, that your hands have established.

19 When the horses of Pharaoh with his chariots and his chariot drivers went into the sea, the Lord brought back the waters of the sea upon them, but the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground.

this is my God, and I will praise him—the God of my father—and I will exalt him.

3 Yahweh is a man of war; Yahweh is his name.

4 The chariots of Pharaoh and his army he cast into the sea,

and his choice adjutants were sunk in the Red Sea.

5 The deep waters covered them;

they went down into the depths like a stone.

6 Yahweh, your right hand is glorious in power;

Yahweh, your right hand destroyed the enemy.

7 And in the greatness of your majesty you overthrew those standing up to you;

you released your fierce anger, and it consumed them like stubble.

8 And by the breath of your nostrils waters were piled up;

waves stood like a heap;

deep waters in the middle of the sea congealed.

9 The enemy said, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide plunder,

my desire will be full of them, I will draw my sword, my hand will destroy them.’

10 You blew with your breath; the sea covered them;

they dropped like lead in the mighty waters.

11 Who is like you among the gods, Yahweh?

Who is like you—glorious in holiness, awesome in praiseworthy actions, doing wonders?

12 You stretched out your right hand;

the earth swallowed them.

13 In your loyal love you led the people whom you redeemed;

in your strength you guided them to the abode of your holiness.

until your people passed by, Yahweh,

until the people whom you bought passed by.

17 You brought them and planted them on the mountain of your inheritance,

a place you made for yourself to inhabit, Yahweh,

a sanctuary, Lord, that your hands established.

18 Yahweh will reign as king forever and ever.”

19 When the horses of Pharaoh came into the sea with his chariots and with his charioteers, Yahweh brought back upon them the waters of the sea, and the Israelites traveled on dry ground through the middle of the sea. 20 And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took her tambourine in her hand, and all of the women went out after her with tambourines and with dances. 21 And Miriam answered, “Sing to Yahweh because he is highly exalted; the horse and its rider he hurled into the sea.”

27 And they came to Elim, and twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees were there, and they encamped there at the water.

1 Here is the song that Moses and the people of Israel sang to the Lord. They said,

“I will sing to the Lord.

He is greatly honored.

He has thrown Pharaoh’s horses and their riders

into the Red Sea.

2 The Lord gives me strength. I sing about him.

He has saved me.

He is my God. I will praise him.

He is my father’s God. I will honor him.

3 The Lord goes into battle.

The Lord is his name.

4 He has thrown Pharaoh’s chariots and army

into the Red Sea.

We’ll divide up what we take from them.

We’ll eat them alive.

We’ll pull our swords out.

Our powerful hands will destroy them.’

10 But you blew with your breath.

The Red Sea covered your enemies.

They sank like lead

in the mighty waters.

11 “Lord, who among the gods is like you?

Who is like you?

You are majestic and holy.

Your glory fills me with wonder.

You do wonderful miracles.

12 You reached out your right hand.

The earth swallowed up the Egyptians.

13 “Because your love is faithful,

you will lead the people you have set free.

Because you are so strong,

you will guide them to the holy place where you live.

14 The nations will hear about it and tremble.

Pain and suffering will take hold of the Philistines.

15 The chiefs of Edom will be terrified.

The leaders of Moab will tremble with fear.

The people of Canaan will melt away.

16 Fear and terror will fall on them.

Your powerful arm

will make them as still as a stone.

Then your people will pass by, Lord.

Then the people you created will pass by.

17 You will bring them in.

You will plant them on the mountain you gave them.

Lord, you have made that place your home.

Lord, your hands have made your holy place secure.

18 “The Lord will rule

for ever and ever.”

19 Pharaoh’s horses, chariots and horsemen went into the Red Sea. The Lord brought the waters of the sea back over them. But the people of Israel walked through the sea on dry ground.

20 Aaron’s sister Miriam was a prophet. She took a tambourine in her hand. All the women followed her. They played tambourines and danced. 21 Miriam sang to them,

“Sing to the Lord.

He is greatly honored.

He has thrown Pharaoh’s horses and their riders

into the Red Sea.”

22 Then Moses led Israel away from the Red Sea. They went into the Desert of Shur. For three days they traveled in the desert. 25 Then Moses cried out to the Lord. The Lord showed him a stick. Moses threw it into the water. The water became sweet.

There the Lord made a rule and a law for the people. And there he put them to the test. 26 He said, “I am the Lord your God. Listen carefully to my voice. Do what is right in my eyes. Pay attention to my commands. Obey all of my rules. If you do, I will not send on you any of the sicknesses I sent on the Egyptians. I am the Lord who heals you.”

27 The people came to Elim. It had 12 springs and 70 palm trees. They camped there near the water.
