Zechariah 1:1–5
*aIn the eighth month, abin the second year of Darius, came the word of the Lord unto Zechariah, cthe son of Berechiah, cthe son of dIddo the prophet, saying,
2 The Lord hath been †sore displeased with your fathers.
3 Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts;
efTurn ye unto me, saith the Lord of hosts,
And egI will turn unto you, saith the Lord of hosts.
4 hBe ye not as your fathers, iunto whom the former prophets have cried, saying,
Thus saith the Lord of hosts; fkTurn ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings:
But lthey did not hear, nor hearken unto me, saith the Lord.
5 moYour fathers, nwhere are they?

1 In the eighth month of the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to the prophet Zechariah son of Berekiah, the son of Iddo:
2 “The Lord was very angry with your ancestors. 3 Therefore tell the people: This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Return to me,’ declares the Lord Almighty, ‘and I will return to you,’ says the Lord Almighty. 4 Do not be like your ancestors, to whom the earlier prophets proclaimed: This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Turn from your evil ways and your evil practices.’ But they would not listen or pay attention to me, declares the Lord. 5 Where are your ancestors now? And the prophets, do they live forever?

1 A message came to the prophet Zechariah from the Lord. It was the eighth month of the second year that Darius was king of Persia. Zechariah was the son of Berekiah. Berekiah was the son of Iddo. Here is what Zechariah said.
2 The Lord who rules over all was very angry with our people years ago. 3 And now he says to us, “Return to me. Then I will return to you,” announces the Lord. 4 “Do not be like your people years ago. The earlier prophets gave them my message. I said, ‘Stop doing what is evil. Turn away from your sinful practices.’ But they would not listen to me. They would not pay any attention,” announces the Lord.
5 “Where are those people now? And what about my prophets? Do they live forever?
