Romans 9:18–19 — The New International Version (NIV)

18 Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.

19 One of you will say to me: “Then why does God still blame us? For who is able to resist his will?”

Romans 9:18–19 — English Standard Version (ESV)

18 So then he has mercy on whomever he wills, and he hardens whomever he wills.

19 You will say to me then, “Why does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?”

Romans 9:18–19 — New Living Translation (NLT)

18 So you see, God chooses to show mercy to some, and he chooses to harden the hearts of others so they refuse to listen.

19 Well then, you might say, “Why does God blame people for not responding? Haven’t they simply done what he makes them do?”

Romans 9:18–19 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

18 Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens.

19 You will say to me then, “Why does He still find fault? For who has resisted His will?”

Romans 9:18–19 — New Century Version (NCV)

18 So God shows mercy where he wants to show mercy, and he makes stubborn the people he wants to make stubborn.

19 So one of you will ask me: “Then why does God blame us for our sins? Who can fight his will?”

Romans 9:18–19 — American Standard Version (ASV)

18 So then he hath mercy on whom he will, and whom he will he hardeneth.

19 Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he still find fault? For who withstandeth his will?

Romans 9:18–19 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

18 So then, to whom he will he shews mercy, and whom he will he hardens. 19 Thou wilt say to me then, Why does he yet find fault? for who resists his purpose?

Romans 9:18–19 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

18 Therefore, if God wants to be kind to anyone, he will be. If he wants to make someone stubborn, he will.

19 You may ask me, “Why does God still find fault with anyone? Who can resist whatever God wants to do?”

Romans 9:18–19 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

18 So then, He shows mercy to those He wants to, and He hardens those He wants to harden.

19 You will say to me, therefore, “Why then does He still find fault? For who can resist His will?”

Romans 9:18–19 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

18 So then he has mercy on whomever he chooses, and he hardens the heart of whomever he chooses.

19 You will say to me then, “Why then does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?”

Romans 9:18–19 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

18 Consequently therefore, he has mercy on whomever he wishes, and he hardens whomever he wishes.

19 Therefore you will say to me, “Why then does he still find fault? For who has resisted his will?

Romans 9:18–19 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

18 So God does what he wants to do. He shows mercy to one person and makes another stubborn.

19 One of you will say to me, “Then why does God still blame us? Who can oppose what he wants to do?”

Romans 9:18–19 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

18 So then He has mercy on whom He desires, and He hardens whom He desires.

19 You will say to me then, “Why does He still find fault? For who resists His will?”
