Psalm 49:6–90:17
6 They that ftrust in their wealth,
And boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
7 None of them gcan by any means redeem his brother,
Nor hgive to God ia ransom for him:
8 (For kthe redemption of their soul is precious,
And it ceaseth for ever:)
9 That he should still live for ever,
And lnot see corruption.
10 For he seeth that mwise men die,
Likewise the mfool and the nbrutish person perish,
And oleave their wealth to others.
11 pTheir inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever,
And their dwelling places †to all generations;
They qcall their lands after their own names.
12 Nevertheless rman being in honour abideth not:
sHe is like the beasts that perish.
13 This their way is their ssfolly:
Yet their posterity †approve their sayings. Selah.
14 Like sheep they are laid in the grave;
Death shall feed on them;
And the upright tshall have dominion over them in the morning;
And utheir ||beauty shall consume ||in the grave from their dwelling.
15 But God wwill redeem my soul †from the power of ||the grave:
For xhe shall receive me. Selah.
16 Be not thou afraid when one is made rich,
When the glory of his house is increased;
17 yFor when he dieth he shall carry nothing away:
His glory shall not descend after him.
18 Though †while he lived zhe blessed his soul:
And men will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.
19 †He shall ago to the generation of his fathers;
They shall never see blight.
20 cMan that is in honour, and understandeth not,
Is like the beasts that perish.
A Psalm ||of Asaph.
1 The amighty God, even the Lord, hath spoken, and called the earth
bFrom the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof.
2 Out of Zion, cthe perfection of beauty,
dGod hath shined.
3 Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence:
eA fire shall devour before him,
And it shall be very tempestuous round about him.
4 fHe shall call to the heavens from above,
And to the earth, that he may judge his people.
5 Gather gmy saints together unto me;
hThose that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.
6 And ithe heavens shall declare his righteousness:
For jGod is judge himself. Selah.
7 kHear, O my people, and I will speak;
O Israel, and kI will testify against thee:
lI am God, even thy God.
8 mI will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices
Or thy burnt offerings, to have been mmcontinually before me.
9 nI will take no bullock out of thy house,
Nor he goats out of thy ofolds.
10 For every beast of the forest is mine,
And the cattle upon a thousand hills.
11 I know all the fowls of the mountains:
And pthe wild beasts of the field are †mine.
12 If I were hungry, I would not tell thee:
qFor the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.
13 Will I eat the flesh of rbulls,
Or drink the blood of goats?
14 sOffer unto God tthanksgiving;
And upay thy vows unto the most High:
15 And vcall upon me in the day of trouble:
wI will deliver thee, and thou shalt xglorify me.
16 But unto the wicked God saith,
yWhat hast thou to do to declare my statutes,
Or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?
17 zSeeing thou hatest instruction,
And acastest my words behind thee.
18 When thou sawest a thief, then thou bconsentedst with him,
And †hast been partaker with adulterers.
19 †Thou givest thy mouth to evil,
And cthy tongue frameth deceit.
20 Thou sittest and dspeakest against thy brother;
Thou slanderest thine own mother’s son.
21 These things hast thou done, and eI kept silence;
fThou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself:
But I will greprove thee, and hset them in order before thine eyes.
22 Now consider this, ye that iforget God,
Lest I tear you in pieces, and there be knone to deliver.
23 lWhoso offereth praise xglorifieth me:
And to him †that ordereth his conversation aright
Will I shew the salvation of God.
*To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, *when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bath-sheba.
1 aHave mercy upon me, O God, aaccording to thy lovingkindness:
According unto the multitude of thy tender mercies bblot out my transgressions.
2 cWash me throughly from mine iniquity,
And cleanse me from my sin.
3 For dI acknowledge my transgressions:
And my sin is eever before me.
4 fAgainst thee, thee only, have I sinned,
And done this evil gin thy sight:
hThat thou mightest be justified when thou speakest,
And be clear when thou judgest.
5 Behold, iI was shapen in iniquity;
And in sin did my mother †conceive me.
6 Behold, thou desirest truth jin the inward parts:
And in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
7 kPurge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean:
cWash me, and lI shall be whiter than snow.
8 Make me to hear joy and gladness;
That mthe bones which thou hast nbroken may rejoice.
9 oHide thy face from my sins,
And bblot out all mine iniquities.
10 Create in me pa clean heart, O God;
And qrenew ||a rright spirit within me.
11 sCast me not away tfrom thy presence;
And take not uthy holy spirit from me.
12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation;
And uphold me with thy wfree spirit.
13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways;
And sinners shall be xconverted unto thee.
14 Deliver me from †ybloodguiltiness, O God, thou zGod of my salvation:
And amy tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.
And my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
16 For thou bdesirest not sacrifice; ||else would I give it:
Thou delightest not in burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a cbroken spirit:
A cbroken and a dcontrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
18 eDo good in thy good pleasure unto Zion:
fBuild thou the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then shalt thou be bpleased with gthe sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and hwhole burnt offering:
Then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
To the chief Musician, *Maschil, A Psalm of David, when †Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said unto him, David is come to the house of Ahimelech.
1 Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O amighty man?
The goodness of God endureth continually.
2 bThy tongue deviseth cmischiefs;
dLike a sharp rasor, ddworking deceitfully.
3 Thou lovest evil more than good;
And lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.
4 Thou lovest all devouring words,
||O thou deceitful tongue.
5 God shall likewise †destroy thee for ever,
He shall take thee away, and epluck thee out of thy dwelling place,
And root thee out of fthe land of the living. Selah.
6 The righteous also shall gsee, and gfear,
And hshall laugh at him:
7 Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength;
But itrusted in the abundance of his riches,
And strengthened himself in his ||cwickedness.
8 But I am like ka green olive tree in the house of God:
I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.
9 I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it:
And I will wait on thy name; lfor it is good before mthy saints.
To the chief Musician upon *Mahalath, †Maschil, A Psalm of David.
1 aThe fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.
Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity:
bThere is none that doeth good.
2 God looked down from heaven upon the children of men,
To see if there were bany that did understand, that did seek God.
3 bEvery one of them is cgone back: they are altogether become filthy;
There is none that doeth good, no, not one.
4 Have dthe workers of iniquity no knowledge?
Who eat up my people as they eat bread:
They have not called upon God.
5 There †were they in great fear, ewhere no fear was:
fFor God hath ghscattered hthe bones of him that encampeth against thee:
Thou hast put them to shame, because God hath despised them.
6 †Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion!
When God bringeth back the captivity of his people,
Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.
To the chief Musician on *Neginoth, †Maschil, A Psalm of David, *when the †Ziphims came and said to Saul, Doth not David hide himself with us?
1 Save me, O God, by thy name,
And judge me by thy strength.
2 aHear my prayer, O God;
Give ear to the words of my mouth.
3 For bstrangers are risen up against me,
And oppressors seek after my soul:
They have not set God before them. Selah.
4 Behold, cGod is mine helper:
The Lord is cwith them that uphold my soul.
5 He shall reward evil unto †mine enemies:
6 I will ffreely sacrifice unto thee:
I will praise thy name, O Lord; gfor it is good.
7 For he hath delivered me out of all trouble:
And mine eye hath hseen his desire upon mine enemies.
To the chief Musician on *Neginoth, †Maschil, A Psalm of David.
1 *aGive ear to my bprayer, O God;
And hide not thyself from my bsupplication.
2 aAttend unto me, and chear me:
I mourn in my dcomplaint, and emake a noise;
3 Because of the voice of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked:
For fthey cast iniquity upon me, and in wrath they hate me.
4 My heart is sore pained within me:
And gthe terrors of death are fallen upon me.
5 hFearfulness and htrembling are come upon me,
And ihorror hath †overwhelmed me.
6 And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove!
For then would I fly away, and be at rest.
7 Lo, then would I wander far off,
And remain in the wilderness. Selah.
From the windy storm and jtempest.
9 jjDestroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues:
For I have seen kviolence and strife in the city.
10 Day and night they go about it upon the walls thereof:
Mischief also and sorrow are in the midst of it.
11 lWickedness is in the midst thereof:
mDeceit and guile depart not from her streets.
12 For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it:
Neither was it he that hated me that did nmagnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him:
13 But it was thou, †a man mine equal,
My oguide, and mine pacquaintance.
14 †We took sweet qcounsel together,
And rwalked unto the house of God in qcompany.
And let them sgo down squick into ||hell:
For wickedness is in their tdwellings, and among them.
16 As for me, I will call upon God;
And the Lord shall save me.
17 uEvening, and morning, and wat noon, will I xpray, and xcry aloud:
And he shall hear my voice.
