28 “Then they will call to me but I will not answer;

they will look for me but will not find me,

29 since they hated knowledge

and did not choose to fear the Lord.

30 Since they would not accept my advice

and spurned my rebuke,

31 they will eat the fruit of their ways

and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.

Proverbs 1:28–31 — English Standard Version (ESV)

28 Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer;

they will seek me diligently but will not find me.

29 Because they hated knowledge

and did not choose the fear of the Lord,

30 would have none of my counsel

and despised all my reproof,

31 therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way,

and have their fill of their own devices.

Proverbs 1:28–31 — New Living Translation (NLT)

28 “When they cry for help, I will not answer.

Though they anxiously search for me, they will not find me.

29 For they hated knowledge

and chose not to fear the Lord.

30 They rejected my advice

and paid no attention when I corrected them.

31 Therefore, they must eat the bitter fruit of living their own way,

choking on their own schemes.

Proverbs 1:28–31 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

28 “Then they will call on me, but I will not answer;

They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me.

29 Because they hated knowledge

And did not choose the fear of the Lord,

30 They would have none of my counsel

And despised my every rebuke.

31 Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way,

And be filled to the full with their own fancies.

Proverbs 1:28–31 — New Century Version (NCV)

28 “Then you will call to me,

but I will not answer.

You will look for me,

but you will not find me.

29 It is because you rejected knowledge

and did not choose to respect the Lord.

30 You did not accept my advice,

and you rejected my correction.

31 So you will get what you deserve;

you will get what you planned for others.

Proverbs 1:28–31 — American Standard Version (ASV)

28 Then will they call upon me, but I will not answer;

They will seek me diligently, but they shall not find me:

29 For that they hated knowledge,

And did not choose the fear of Jehovah:

30 They would none of my counsel;

They despised all my reproof.

31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way,

And be filled with their own devices.

Proverbs 1:28–31 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

28 —then will they call upon me, but I will not answer; they will seek me early, and shall not find me. 29 Because they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of Jehovah; 30 they would none of my counsel, they despised all my reproof: 31 therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their way, and be filled with their own devices.

Proverbs 1:28–31 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

You didn’t choose to have respect for the Lord.

You will choke on the fruit of what you have planned.
