22 Though your people be like the sand by the sea, Israel,

only a remnant will return.

Destruction has been decreed,

overwhelming and righteous.

23 The Lord, the Lord Almighty, will carry out

the destruction decreed upon the whole land.

22 For though your people Israel be as the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will return. Destruction is decreed, overflowing with righteousness. 23 For the Lord God of hosts will make a full end, as decreed, in the midst of all the earth.

22 But though the people of Israel are as numerous

as the sand of the seashore,

only a remnant of them will return.

The Lord has rightly decided to destroy his people.

23 Yes, the Lord, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies,

has already decided to destroy the entire land.

22 For though your people, O Israel, be as the sand of the sea,

A remnant of them will return;

The destruction decreed shall overflow with righteousness.

23 For the Lord God of hosts

Will make a determined end

In the midst of all the land.

22 Israel, your people are many,

like the grains of sand by the sea.

But only a few of them will be left alive to return to the Lord.

God has announced that he will destroy the land

completely and fairly.

23 The Lord God All-Powerful will certainly destroy this land,

as he has announced.

22 For though thy people, Israel, be as the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them shall return: a destruction is determined, overflowing with righteousness. 23 For a full end, and that determined, will the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, make in the midst of all the earth.

22 For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them shall return: the consumption determined shall overflow in righteousness. 23 For a consumption, and one determined, will the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, accomplish in the midst of all the land.

22 Although your people Israel may be 

as ⸤numerous as⸥ the grains of sand on the seashore, 

only a few will return. 

Destruction will be complete and fair. 

23 The Almighty Lord of Armies will carry out this destruction 

throughout the world as he has determined. 

22 Israel, even if your people were as numerous

as the sand of the sea,

Destruction has been decreed;

justice overflows.

23 For throughout the land

the Lord God of Hosts

is carrying out a destruction that was decreed.

22 For though your people Israel were like the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will return. Destruction is decreed, overflowing with righteousness. 23 For the Lord God of hosts will make a full end, as decreed, in all the earth.

Annihilation is determined,

overflowing with righteousness.

23 For the Lord Yahweh of hosts is about to make a complete destruction

and a determined end in the midst of all the earth.

22 Israel, your people might be as many as the grains of sand by the sea.

But only a few of them will return.

The Lord has handed down a death sentence.

He will destroy his people.

What he does is right.

23 The Lord who rules over all will carry out his sentence.

The Lord will destroy the whole land.

22 For though your people, O Israel, may be like the sand of the sea,

Only a remnant within them will return;

A destruction is determined, overflowing with righteousness.

23 For a complete destruction, one that is decreed, the Lord God of hosts will execute in the midst of the whole land.
