1 See now, the Lord,

the Lord Almighty,

is about to take from Jerusalem and Judah

both supply and support:

all supplies of food and all supplies of water,

2 the hero and the warrior,

the judge and the prophet,

the diviner and the elder,

3 the captain of fifty and the man of rank,

the counselor, skilled craftsman and clever enchanter.

4 “I will make mere youths their officials;

children will rule over them.”

5 People will oppress each other—

man against man, neighbor against neighbor.

The young will rise up against the old,

the nobody against the honored.

1 For behold, the Lord God of hosts

is taking away from Jerusalem and from Judah

support and supply,

all support of bread,

and all support of water;

2 the mighty man and the soldier,

the judge and the prophet,

the diviner and the elder,

3 the captain of fifty

and the man of rank,

the counselor and the skillful magician

and the expert in charms.

4 And I will make boys their princes,

and infants shall rule over them.

5 And the people will oppress one another,

every one his fellow

and every one his neighbor;

the youth will be insolent to the elder,

and the despised to the honorable.

1 The Lord, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies,

will take away from Jerusalem and Judah

everything they depend on:

every bit of bread

and every drop of water,

2 all their heroes and soldiers,

judges and prophets,

fortune-tellers and elders,

3 army officers and high officials,

advisers, skilled sorcerers, and astrologers.

4 I will make boys their leaders,

and toddlers their rulers.

5 People will oppress each other—

man against man,

neighbor against neighbor.

Young people will insult their elders,

and vulgar people will sneer at the honorable.

1 For behold, the Lord, the Lord of hosts,

Takes away from Jerusalem and from Judah

The stock and the store,

The whole supply of bread and the whole supply of water;

2 The mighty man and the man of war,

The judge and the prophet,

And the diviner and the elder;

3 The captain of fifty and the honorable man,

The counselor and the skillful artisan,

And the expert enchanter.

4 “I will give children to be their princes,

And babes shall rule over them.

5 The people will be oppressed,

Every one by another and every one by his neighbor;

The child will be insolent toward the elder,

And the base toward the honorable.”

1 Understand this:

The Lord God All-Powerful

will take away everything Judah and Jerusalem need—

all the food and water,

2 the heroes and great soldiers,

the judges and prophets,

people who do magic and elders,

3 the military leaders and government leaders,

the counselors, the skilled craftsmen, and those who try to tell the future.

4 The Lord says, “I will cause young boys to be your leaders,

and foolish children will rule over you.

5 People will be against each other; everyone will be against his neighbor.

Young people will not respect older people,

and common people will not respect important people.”

1 For, behold, the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, doth take away from Jerusalem and from Judah stay and staff, the whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water; 2 the mighty man, and the man of war; the judge, and the prophet, and the diviner, and the elder; 3 the captain of fifty, and the honorable man, and the counsellor, and the expert artificer, and the skilful enchanter. 4 And I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them. 5 And the people shall be oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbor: the child shall behave himself proudly against the old man, and the base against the honorable.

1 For behold, the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, will take away from Jerusalem and from Judah stay and staff, the whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water, 2 the mighty man and the man of war, the judge and the prophet, and the diviner and the elder, 3 the captain of fifty, and the honourable man, and the counsellor, and the clever among artificers, and the one versed in enchantments. 4 And I will appoint youths as their princes, and children shall rule over them. 5 And the people shall be oppressed one by the other, and each by his neighbour; the child will be insolent against the elder, and the base against the honourable.

1 See now, the Lord, the Lord of Armies, 

is going to take from Jerusalem and Judah 

every kind of support 

and their entire supply of food and water. 

2 ⸤He will take their⸥ heroes and soldiers, 

judges and prophets, 

fortunetellers and statesmen, 

3 military leaders and civilian leaders, 

counselors, skilled workers, and experts in magic. 

4 “I will make boys their leaders. 

Children will govern them.” 

5 People will oppress each other, 

and everyone will oppress his neighbor. 

The young will make fun of the old, 

and common people will make fun of their superiors. 

1 Observe this: The Lord God of Hosts

is about to remove from Jerusalem and from Judah

every kind of security:

the entire supply of bread and water,

2 the hero and warrior,

the judge and prophet,

the fortune-teller and elder,

3 the commander of 50 and the dignitary,

the counselor, cunning magician, and necromancer.

4 “I will make youths their leaders,

and the unstable will govern them.”

5 The people will oppress one another,

man against man, neighbor against neighbor;

the youth will act arrogantly toward the elder,

and the worthless toward the honorable.

1 For now the Sovereign, the Lord of hosts,

is taking away from Jerusalem and from Judah

support and staff—

all support of bread,

and all support of water—

2 warrior and soldier,

judge and prophet,

diviner and elder,

3 captain of fifty

and dignitary,

counselor and skillful magician

and expert enchanter.

4 And I will make boys their princes,

and babes shall rule over them.

5 The people will be oppressed,

everyone by another

and everyone by a neighbor;

the youth will be insolent to the elder,

and the base to the honorable.

1 For look, the Lord Yahweh of hosts is removing every source of support

from Jerusalem and from Judah:

all of the supplies of bread

and all of the supplies of water,

2 mighty warrior and man of war,

judge and prophet,

and diviner and elder,

3 captain of fifty and the honorable men of rank,

and counselor and skillful magicians and skillful enchanter.

4 And I will make boys their princes,

and children shall rule over them.

5 And the people will be oppressed by each other

and a man by his neighbor.

The boy will act arrogantly toward the elder,

and the dishonorable toward the honorable.

1 Here is what

the Lord who rules over all is about to do.

The Lord will take away from Jerusalem and Judah

supplies and help alike.

He will take away all of the supplies of food and water.

2 He’ll take away heroes and soldiers.

He’ll take away judges and prophets.

He’ll take away fortune tellers and elders.

3 He’ll take away captains of companies of 50 men.

He’ll take away government leaders.

He’ll take away advisers, skilled workers

and those who are clever at doing evil magic.

4 The Lord will make young boys rule over all of them.

Mere children will govern them.

5 People will crush one another.

They will fight against each other.

They will fight against their neighbors.

Young people will attack old people.

Ordinary people will attack those who are more important.

1 For behold, the Lord God of hosts is going to remove from Jerusalem and Judah

Both supply and support, the whole supply of bread

And the whole supply of water;

2 The mighty man and the warrior,

The judge and the prophet,

The diviner and the elder,

3 The captain of fifty and the honorable man,

The counselor and the expert artisan,

And the skillful enchanter.

4 And I will make mere lads their princes,

And capricious children will rule over them,

5 And the people will be oppressed,

Each one by another, and each one by his neighbor;

The youth will storm against the elder

And the inferior against the honorable.
