Hosea 4:7–9 — New International Version (2011) (NIV)
7 The more priests there were,
the more they sinned against me;
they exchanged their glorious God for something disgraceful.
8 They feed on the sins of my people
and relish their wickedness.
9 And it will be: Like people, like priests.
I will punish both of them for their ways
and repay them for their deeds.
Hosea 4:7–9 — English Standard Version (ESV)
7 The more they increased,
the more they sinned against me;
I will change their glory into shame.
8 They feed on the sin of my people;
they are greedy for their iniquity.
9 And it shall be like people, like priest;
I will punish them for their ways
and repay them for their deeds.
Hosea 4:7–9 — New Living Translation (NLT)
7 The more priests there are,
the more they sin against me.
They have exchanged the glory of God
for the shame of idols.
8 “When the people bring their sin offerings, the priests get fed.
So the priests are glad when the people sin!
9 ‘And what the priests do, the people also do.’
So now I will punish both priests and people
for their wicked deeds.
Hosea 4:7–9 — The New King James Version (NKJV)
7 “The more they increased,
The more they sinned against Me;
I will change their glory into shame.
8 They eat up the sin of My people;
They set their heart on their iniquity.
9 And it shall be: like people, like priest.
So I will punish them for their ways,
And reward them for their deeds.
Hosea 4:7–9 — New Century Version (NCV)
7 The more priests there are,
the more they sin against me.
I will take away their honor
and give them shame.
8 Since the priests live off the sin offerings of the people,
they want the people to sin more and more.
9 The priests are as wrong as the people,
and I will punish them both for what they have done.
I will repay them for the wrong they have done.
Hosea 4:7–9 — American Standard Version (ASV)
7 As they were multiplied, so they sinned against me: I will change their glory into shame. 8 They feed on the sin of my people, and set their heart on their iniquity. 9 And it shall be, like people, like priest; and I will punish them for their ways, and will requite them their doings.
Hosea 4:7–9 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)
7 As they were multiplied, so they sinned against me: I will change their glory into shame. 8 They eat the sin of my people, and their soul longeth for their iniquity. 9 And it shall be as the people so the priest; and I will visit their ways upon them, and recompense to them their doings;
Hosea 4:7–9 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
7 The more priests there are,
the more they sin against me.
So I will turn their glory into shame.
8 They feed on the sins of my people,
and they want them to do wicked things.
9 So the priests will be punished like the people.
I will punish them for their wicked ways
and pay them back for what they have done.
Hosea 4:7–9 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
7 The more they multiplied,
the more they sinned against Me.
I will change their honor into disgrace.
8 They feed on the sin of My people;
they have an appetite for their transgressions.
9 The same judgment will happen
to both people and priests.
I will punish them for their ways
and repay them for their deeds.
Hosea 4:7–9 — New Revised Standard Version: Updated Edition (NRSVue)
7 The more they increased,
the more they sinned against me;
they changed their glory into shame.
8 They feed on the sin of my people;
they are greedy for their iniquity.
9 And it shall be like people, like priest;
I will punish them for their ways
and repay them for their deeds.
Hosea 4:7–9 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)
7 When they became many, their sin increased against me;
they changed their glory into shame.
8 They feed on the sin of my people,
they are greedy for their iniquity.
9 And it will be like people, like priest;
I will punish them for their ways,
and I will requite them for their deeds.
Hosea 4:7–9 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)
7 The more priests there are,
the more they sin against me.
They have traded their glorious God for that shameful god Baal.
8 They live off the sins of my people.
And they want them to keep on sinning.
9 So here is what I will do.
I will punish people and priests alike.
I will judge them because of their sinful lives.
I will pay them back
for the evil things they have done.
Hosea 4:7–9 — New American Standard Bible (1995) (NASB95)
7 The more they multiplied, the more they sinned against Me;
I will change their glory into shame.
8 They feed on the sin of My people
And direct their desire toward their iniquity.
9 And it will be, like people, like priest;
So I will punish them for their ways
And repay them for their deeds.
