Amos 6:11–13 — New International Version (2011) (NIV)
11 For the Lord has given the command,
and he will smash the great house into pieces
and the small house into bits.
12 Do horses run on the rocky crags?
Does one plow the sea with oxen?
But you have turned justice into poison
and the fruit of righteousness into bitterness—
13 you who rejoice in the conquest of Lo Debar
and say, “Did we not take Karnaim by our own strength?”
Amos 6:11–13 — English Standard Version (ESV)
11 For behold, the Lord commands,
and the great house shall be struck down into fragments,
and the little house into bits.
12 Do horses run on rocks?
Does one plow there with oxen?
But you have turned justice into poison
and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood—
13 you who rejoice in Lo-debar,
who say, “Have we not by our own strength
captured Karnaim for ourselves?”
Amos 6:11–13 — New Living Translation (NLT)
11 When the Lord gives the command,
homes both great and small will be smashed to pieces.
12 Can horses gallop over boulders?
Can oxen be used to plow them?
But that’s how foolish you are when you turn justice into poison
and the sweet fruit of righteousness into bitterness.
13 And you brag about your conquest of Lo-debar.
You boast, “Didn’t we take Karnaim by our own strength?”
Amos 6:11–13 — The New King James Version (NKJV)
11 For behold, the Lord gives a command:
He will break the great house into bits,
And the little house into pieces.
12 Do horses run on rocks?
Does one plow there with oxen?
Yet you have turned justice into gall,
And the fruit of righteousness into wormwood,
13 You who rejoice over Lo Debar,
Who say, “Have we not taken Karnaim for ourselves
By our own strength?”
Amos 6:11–13 — New Century Version (NCV)
11 The Lord has given the command;
the large house will be broken into pieces,
and the small house into bits.
12 Horses do not run on rocks,
and people do not plow rocks with oxen.
But you have changed fairness into poison;
you have changed what is right into a bitter taste.
13 You are happy that the town of Lo Debar was captured,
and you say, “We have taken Karnaim by our own strength.”
Amos 6:11–13 — American Standard Version (ASV)
11 For, behold, Jehovah commandeth, and the great house shall be smitten with breaches, and the little house with clefts.
12 Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there with oxen? that ye have turned justice into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood; 13 ye that rejoice in a thing of nought, that say, Have we not taken to us horns by our own strength?
Amos 6:11–13 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)
11 For behold, Jehovah commandeth, and he will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts. 12 Shall horses run upon the rock? will men plough thereon with oxen? For ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood, 13 —ye that rejoice in a thing of nought, that say, Have we not taken to us power by our own strength?
Amos 6:11–13 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
11 The Lord is going to give the command
to level big houses and flatten little houses.
12 Do horses run on rocks?
Does a farmer plow the sea with oxen?
Yet, you have turned justice into something deadly
and what is righteous into poison.
13 How horrible it will be for those who rejoice over Lo Debar
and who say, “We were strong enough to capture Karnaim by ourselves.”
Amos 6:11–13 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
11 For the Lord commands:
The large house will be smashed to pieces,
and the small house to rubble.
12 Do horses gallop on the cliffs;
does anyone plow there with oxen?
Yet you have turned justice into poison
and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood —
13 you who rejoice over Lo-debar
and say, “Didn’t we capture Karnaim
for ourselves by our own strength?”
Amos 6:11–13 — New Revised Standard Version: Updated Edition (NRSVue)
11 For the Lord commands,
and he will shatter the great house to bits
and the little house to pieces.
12 Do horses run on rocky crags?
Does one plow the sea with oxen?
But you have turned justice into poison
and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood,
13 you who rejoice in Lo-debar,
who say, “Have we not by our own strength
taken Karnaim for ourselves?”
Amos 6:11–13 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)
11 Look, Yahweh is going to command and the great house will be destroyed to bits and the little house to pieces. 12 Do horses run on rocks, or does one plow the sea with oxen? But you have turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood! 13 You who rejoice over Lo-Debar, who say, “Have we not taken Karnaim for ourselves by our strength?”
Amos 6:11–13 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)
11 The Lord has already given an order.
He will smash large houses to pieces.
He will crush small houses to bits.
12 Horses don’t run on rocky ground.
People don’t plow there with oxen.
But you have turned fair treatment into poison.
You have turned the fruit of right living into bitterness.
13 You are happy because you captured the town of Lo Debar.
You say, “We were strong enough to take Karnaim too.”
Amos 6:11–13 — New American Standard Bible (1995) (NASB95)
11 For behold, the Lord is going to command that the great house be smashed to pieces and the small house to fragments.
12 Do horses run on rocks?
Or does one plow them with oxen?
Yet you have turned justice into poison
And the fruit of righteousness into wormwood,
13 You who rejoice in Lodebar,
And say, “Have we not by our own strength taken Karnaim for ourselves?”
