Mark 9:2–13

The Transfiguration

After i six days j Jesus took Peter, James, and John k and led them up on a high mountain l by themselves to be alone. He was transformed m n in front of them, and His clothes o became dazzling—extremely white p as no launderer on earth could whiten q them. Elijah r appeared to them with Moses, s and they were talking with Jesus.

Then Peter said to Jesus, “* Rabbi, t it’s good u for us to be here! Let us make three * tabernacles: v one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”— because he did not know what he should say, w since they were terrified. x

A cloud y appeared, overshadowing z them, and a voice a came from the cloud: b

This is My beloved c Son; d

listen to Him! e

Then suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus alone.

As f they were coming down from the mountain, g He ordered them to tell no one what they had seen h until the * Son of Man i had risen j from the dead. k 10 They kept this word l to themselves, discussing what “rising from the dead” meant.

11 Then they began to question Him, “Why do the * scribes m say that Elijah must come first?” n

12 Elijah does come first and restores o everything,” p He replied. How then is it written q about the Son of Man that He must suffer r many things and be treated with contempt? s 13 But I tell you that Elijah really has come, and they did whatever they pleased to him, just as it is written t about him.”
