Psalm 49:11–13 — The New International Version (NIV)

11 Their tombs will remain their houses forever,

their dwellings for endless generations,

though they had named lands after themselves.

12 People, despite their wealth, do not endure;

they are like the beasts that perish.

13 This is the fate of those who trust in themselves,

and of their followers, who approve their sayings.

Psalm 49:11–13 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

11 Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever,

And their dwelling places to all generations;

They call their lands after their own names.

12 Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not:

He is like the beasts that perish.

13 This their way is their folly:

Yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.

Psalm 49:11–13 — New Living Translation (NLT)

11 The grave is their eternal home,

where they will stay forever.

They may name their estates after themselves,

12 but their fame will not last.

They will die, just like animals.

13 This is the fate of fools,

though they are remembered as being wise.

He is like the beasts that perish.

13 This is the way of those who are foolish,

And of their posterity who approve their sayings.

Psalm 49:11–13 — New Century Version (NCV)

11 Their graves will always be their homes.

They will live there from now on,

even though they named places after themselves.

12 Even rich people do not live forever;

like the animals, people die.

13 This is what will happen to those who trust in themselves

and to their followers who believe them.

He is like the beasts that perish.

13 This their way is their folly:

Yet after them men approve their sayings. Selah

Psalm 49:11–13 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

11 Their inward thought is, that their houses are for ever, their dwelling-places from generation to generation: they call the lands after their own names. 12 Nevertheless, man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish. 13 This their way is their folly, yet they that come after them delight in their sayings. Selah.

Psalm 49:11–13 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

11 Although they named their lands after themselves,

their graveshave become their homes for ages to come,

their dwelling places throughout every generation.

12 But mortals will not continue here with what they treasure.

They are like animals that die.

13 This is the final outcome for fools and their followers

who are delighted by what they say:

Psalm 49:11–13 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

11 Their graves are their eternal homes,

their homes from generation to generation,

though they have named estates after themselves.

he is like the animals that perish.

13 This is the way of those who are arrogant,

and of their followers,

who approve of their words. Selah

They are like the animals. They die.

13 That’s what happens to those who trust in themselves.

It also happens to their followers, who agree with what they say. Selah

And of those after them who approve their words.

Selah.
