Psalm 38:16–20 — The New International Version (NIV)
16 For I said, “Do not let them gloat
or exalt themselves over me when my feet slip.”
17 For I am about to fall,
and my pain is ever with me.
18 I confess my iniquity;
I am troubled by my sin.
19 Many have become my enemies without cause;
those who hate me without reason are numerous.
20 Those who repay my good with evil
lodge accusations against me,
though I seek only to do what is good.
Psalm 38:16–20 — King James Version (KJV 1900)
16 For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: When my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me. 17 For I am ready to halt, And my sorrow is continually before me. 18 For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin. 19 But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: And they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied. 20 They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; Because I follow the thing that good is.
Psalm 38:16–20 — New Living Translation (NLT)
16 I prayed, “Don’t let my enemies gloat over me
or rejoice at my downfall.”
17 I am on the verge of collapse,
facing constant pain.
18 But I confess my sins;
I am deeply sorry for what I have done.
19 I have many aggressive enemies;
they hate me without reason.
20 They repay me evil for good
and oppose me for pursuing good.
Psalm 38:16–20 — The New King James Version (NKJV)
16 For I said, “Hear me, lest they rejoice over me,
Lest, when my foot slips, they exalt themselves against me.”
17 For I am ready to fall,
And my sorrow is continually before me.
18 For I will declare my iniquity;
I will be in anguish over my sin.
19 But my enemies are vigorous, and they are strong;
And those who hate me wrongfully have multiplied.
20 Those also who render evil for good,
They are my adversaries, because I follow what is good.
Psalm 38:16–20 — New Century Version (NCV)
16 I said, “Don’t let them laugh at me
or brag when I am defeated.”
17 I am about to die,
and I cannot forget my pain.
18 I confess my guilt;
I am troubled by my sin.
19 My enemies are strong and healthy,
and many hate me for no reason.
20 They repay me with evil for the good I did.
They lie about me because I try to do good.
Psalm 38:16–20 — American Standard Version (ASV)
16 For I said, Lest they rejoice over me:
When my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.
17 For I am ready to fall,
And my sorrow is continually before me.
18 For I will declare mine iniquity;
I will be sorry for my sin.
19 But mine enemies are lively, and are strong;
And they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.
20 They also that render evil for good
Are adversaries unto me, because I follow the thing that is good.
Psalm 38:16–20 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)
16 For I said, Let them not rejoice over me! When my foot slipped, they magnified themselves against me. 17 For I am ready to halt, and my pain is continually before me. 18 For I will declare mine iniquity, I am grieved for my sin. 19 But mine enemies are lively, they are strong; and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied: 20 And they that render evil for good are adversaries unto me; because I pursue what is good.
Psalm 38:16–20 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
16 I said, “Do not let them gloat over me.
When my foot slips,
do not let them promote themselves at my expense.”
17 I am ready to fall.
I am continually aware of my pain.
18 I confess my guilt.
My sin troubles me.
19 My mortal enemies are growing stronger.
Many hate me for no reason.
20 They pay me back with evil instead of good,
and they accuse me because I try to do what is good.
Psalm 38:16–20 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
16 For I said, “Don’t let them rejoice over me—
those who are arrogant toward me when I stumble.”
17 For I am about to fall,
and my pain is constantly with me.
18 So I confess my guilt;
I am anxious because of my sin.
19 But my enemies are vigorous and powerful;
many hate me for no reason.
20 Those who repay evil for good
attack me for pursuing good.

those who boast against me when my foot slips.”

and my pain is ever with me.
18 I confess my iniquity;
I am sorry for my sin.
19 Those who are my foes without cause are mighty,

16 For I said, “Help, lest they rejoice over me,
lest they boast against me when my foot slips.”
17 For I am ready to stumble,
and my pain is before me continually.
18 For my iniquity I confess;
I am anxious because of my sin.
19 And my enemies without cause are numerous,
and those who hate me wrongfully are many.
20 And those who repay evil in return for good
accuse me in return for my pursuing good.
Psalm 38:16–20 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

Don’t let them brag when my foot slips.”
17 I am about to fall.
My pain never leaves me.
18 I admit that I have done wrong.
I am troubled by my sin.
19 I have many powerful enemies. They are strong and healthy.
They hate me without any reason.
20 They pay me back with evil, even though I was good to them.
They tell lies about me because I try to do what is good.
Psalm 38:16–20 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

I am full of anxiety because of my sin.
