35 “ ‘If any of your fellow Israelites become poor and are unable to support themselves among you, help them as you would a foreigner and stranger, so they can continue to live among you. 36 Do not take interest or any profit from them, but fear your God, so that they may continue to live among you. 37 You must not lend them money at interest or sell them food at a profit. 38 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt to give you the land of Canaan and to be your God.

39 “ ‘If any of your fellow Israelites become poor and sell themselves to you, do not make them work as slaves. 40 They are to be treated as hired workers or temporary residents among you; they are to work for you until the Year of Jubilee.

35 And if thy brother be waxen poor, and fallen in decay with thee; then thou shalt relieve him: yea, though he be a stranger, or a sojourner; that he may live with thee. 36 Take thou no usury of him, or increase: but fear thy God; that thy brother may live with thee. 37 Thou shalt not give him thy money upon usury, nor lend him thy victuals for increase. 38 I am the Lord your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan, and to be your God.

39 And if thy brother that dwelleth by thee be waxen poor, and be sold unto thee; thou shalt not compel him to serve as a bondservant: 40 But as an hired servant, and as a sojourner, he shall be with thee, and shall serve thee unto the year of jubile:

35 “If one of your fellow Israelites falls into poverty and cannot support himself, support him as you would a foreigner or a temporary resident and allow him to live with you. 36 Do not charge interest or make a profit at his expense. Instead, show your fear of God by letting him live with you as your relative. 37 Remember, do not charge interest on money you lend him or make a profit on food you sell him. 38 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to give you the land of Canaan and to be your God.

39 “If one of your fellow Israelites falls into poverty and is forced to sell himself to you, do not treat him as a slave. 40 Treat him instead as a hired worker or as a temporary resident who lives with you, and he will serve you only until the Year of Jubilee.

35 ‘If one of your brethren becomes poor, and falls into poverty among you, then you shall help him, like a stranger or a sojourner, that he may live with you. 36 Take no usury or interest from him; but fear your God, that your brother may live with you. 37 You shall not lend him your money for usury, nor lend him your food at a profit. 38 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan and to be your God.

39 ‘And if one of your brethren who dwells by you becomes poor, and sells himself to you, you shall not compel him to serve as a slave. 40 As a hired servant and a sojourner he shall be with you, and shall serve you until the Year of Jubilee.

35 “ ‘If anyone from your country becomes too poor to support himself, help him to live among you as you would a stranger or foreigner. 36 Do not charge him any interest on money you loan to him, but respect your God; let the poor live among you. 37 Don’t lend him money for interest, and don’t try to make a profit from the food he buys. 38 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to give the land of Canaan to you and to become your God.

39 “ ‘If anyone from your country becomes very poor and sells himself as a slave to you, you must not make him work like a slave. 40 He will be like a hired worker and a visitor with you until the year of Jubilee.

39 And if thy brother grow poor beside thee, and be sold unto thee, thou shalt not compel him to serve as a bondservant: 40 as a hired servant, as a sojourner, shall he be with thee; until the year of jubilee shall he serve thee.

35 “If an Israelite becomes poor and cannot support himself, help him. He must live with you as a stranger without a permanent home. 36 Don’t collect interest or make any profit from him. Fear your God by respecting other Israelites’ lives. 37 Never collect any kind of interest on your money or on the food you give them. 38 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt to give you Canaan and to be your God. 

39 “If an Israelite becomes poor and sells himself to you, don’t work him like a slave. 40 He will be like a hired worker or a visitor to you. He may work with you until the year of jubilee.

35 “If your brother becomes destitute and cannot sustain himself among you, you are to support him as a foreigner or temporary resident, so that he can continue to live among you. 36 Do not profit or take interest from him, but fear your God and let your brother live among you. 37 You are not to lend him your silver with interest or sell him your food for profit. 38 I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to give you the land of Canaan and to be your God.

39 “If your brother among you becomes destitute and sells himself to you, you must not force him to do slave labor. 40 Let him stay with you as a hired hand or temporary resident; he may work for you until the Year of Jubilee.

35 If any of your kin fall into difficulty and become dependent on you, you shall support them; they shall live with you as though resident aliens. 36 Do not take interest in advance or otherwise make a profit from them, but fear your God; let them live with you. 37 You shall not lend them your money at interest taken in advance, or provide them food at a profit. 38 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan, to be your God.

39 If any who are dependent on you become so impoverished that they sell themselves to you, you shall not make them serve as slaves. 40 They shall remain with you as hired or bound laborers. They shall serve with you until the year of the jubilee.

35 “ ‘And if your countryman becomes poor and if he becomes dependent on you, then you shall support him like an alien and like a temporary resident, and he shall live with you. 36 You must not take interest or usury from him, but you shall revere your God, and your countryman shall live with you. 37 You must not give your money to him with interest or give your food for profit. 38 I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt to give you the land of Canaan, to be as God for you.

39 “ ‘And if your countryman who is with you becomes poor, and he is sold to you, you shall not treat him as a slave. 40 He shall be with you like a hired worker, like a temporary resident; he shall work with you until the Year of Jubilee.

35 “ ‘Suppose one of your own people becomes poor. And suppose he can’t take care of himself. Then help him just as you would help an outsider or someone who is living among you for a while. In that way, the man who is poor can continue to live among you.

36 “ ‘Do not charge him interest of any kind. Instead, have respect for me. Then the man who has become poor can continue to live among you. 37 If you lend him money, you must not charge him interest. And you must not sell him food for more than it cost you.

38 “ ‘I am the Lord your God. I brought you out of Egypt. I did it to give you the land of Canaan. I wanted to be your God.

39 “ ‘Suppose one of your own people becomes poor. And suppose he sells himself to you. Then do not make him work as a slave. 40 You must treat him like a hired worker. Or you must treat him like someone who is living among you for a while.

“ ‘He must work for you until the Year of Jubilee.

35 ‘Now in case a countryman of yours becomes poor and his means with regard to you falter, then you are to sustain him, like a stranger or a sojourner, that he may live with you.

36 ‘Do not take usurious interest from him, but revere your God, that your countryman may live with you.

37 ‘You shall not give him your silver at interest, nor your food for gain.

38 ‘I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to give you the land of Canaan and to be your God.

39 ‘If a countryman of yours becomes so poor with regard to you that he sells himself to you, you shall not subject him to a slave’s service.

40 ‘He shall be with you as a hired man, as if he were a sojourner; he shall serve with you until the year of jubilee.
