Job 22:15–20 — New International Version (2011) (NIV)
15 Will you keep to the old path
that the wicked have trod?
16 They were carried off before their time,
their foundations washed away by a flood.
17 They said to God, ‘Leave us alone!
What can the Almighty do to us?’
18 Yet it was he who filled their houses with good things,
so I stand aloof from the plans of the wicked.
19 The righteous see their ruin and rejoice;
the innocent mock them, saying,
20 ‘Surely our foes are destroyed,
and fire devours their wealth.’
Job 22:15–20 — King James Version (KJV 1900)
15 Hast thou marked the old way
Which wicked men have trodden?
16 Which were cut down out of time,
Whose foundation was overflown with a flood:
17 Which said unto God, Depart from us:
And what can the Almighty do for them?
18 Yet he filled their houses with good things:
But the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
19 The righteous see it, and are glad:
And the innocent laugh them to scorn.
20 Whereas our substance is not cut down,
But the remnant of them the fire consumeth.
Job 22:15–20 — New Living Translation (NLT)
15 “Will you continue on the old paths
where evil people have walked?
16 They were snatched away in the prime of life,
the foundations of their lives washed away.
17 For they said to God, ‘Leave us alone!
What can the Almighty do to us?’
18 Yet he was the one who filled their homes with good things,
so I will have nothing to do with that kind of thinking.
19 “The righteous will be happy to see the wicked destroyed,
and the innocent will laugh in contempt.
20 They will say, ‘See how our enemies have been destroyed.
The last of them have been consumed in the fire.’
Job 22:15–20 — The New King James Version (NKJV)
15 Will you keep to the old way
Which wicked men have trod,
16 Who were cut down before their time,
Whose foundations were swept away by a flood?
17 They said to God, ‘Depart from us!
What can the Almighty do to them?’
18 Yet He filled their houses with good things;
But the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
19 “The righteous see it and are glad,
And the innocent laugh at them:
20 ‘Surely our adversaries are cut down,
And the fire consumes their remnant.’
Job 22:15–20 — New Century Version (NCV)
15 Are you going to stay on the old path
where evil people walk?
16 They were carried away before their time was up,
and their foundations were washed away by a flood.
17 They said to God, ‘Leave us alone!
The Almighty can do nothing to us.’
18 But it was God who filled their houses with good things.
Their way of thinking is different from mine.
19 “Good people can watch and be glad;
the innocent can laugh at them and say,
20 ‘Surely our enemies are destroyed,
and fire burns up their wealth.’
Job 22:15–20 — American Standard Version (ASV)
15 Wilt thou keep the old way
Which wicked men have trodden?
16 Who were snatched away before their time,
Whose foundation was poured out as a stream,
17 Who said unto God, Depart from us;
And, What can the Almighty do for us?
18 Yet he filled their houses with good things:
But the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
19 The righteous see it, and are glad;
And the innocent laugh them to scorn,
20 Saying, Surely they that did rise up against us are cut off,
And the remnant of them the fire hath consumed.
Job 22:15–20 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)
15 Dost thou mark the ancient path which wicked men have trodden? 16 Who were carried off before the time, whose foundation was overflowed with a flood; 17 Who said unto •God, Depart from us! and what could the Almighty do to them? 18 Yet he filled their houses with good. But the counsel of the wicked is far from me. 19 The righteous see it, and are glad; and the innocent laugh them to scorn: 20 Is not he who rose against us destroyed, and doth not the fire consume his residue?
Job 22:15–20 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
15 “Are you following the old path that wicked people have taken?
16 They are snatched up before their time.
A river washes their foundation away.
17 They told God, ‘Leave us alone!
What can the Almighty do for us?’
18 Yet, he filled their homes with good things.
(The plan of the wicked is foreign to my way of thinking.)
19 The righteous saw it and were glad,
and the innocent made fun of them by saying,
20 ‘Indeed, their wealth has been wiped out,
and a fire has burned up what ⸤little⸥ they had left.’
Job 22:15–20 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
15 Will you continue on the ancient path
that wicked men have walked?
16 They were snatched away before their time,
and their foundations were washed away by a river.
17 They were the ones who said to God, “Leave us alone!”
and “What can the Almighty do to us?”
18 But it was He who filled their houses with good things.
The counsel of the wicked is far from me!
19 The righteous see this and rejoice;
the innocent mock them, saying,
20 “Surely our opponents are destroyed,
and fire has consumed what they left behind.”
Job 22:15–20 — New Revised Standard Version: Updated Edition (NRSVue)
15 Will you keep to the old way
that the wicked have trod?
16 They were snatched away before their time;
their foundation was washed away by a flood.
17 They said to God, ‘Leave us alone,’
and ‘What can the Almighty do to us?’
18 Yet he filled their houses with good things—
but the plans of the wicked are repugnant to me.
19 The righteous see it and are glad;
the innocent laugh them to scorn,
20 saying, ‘Surely our adversaries are cut off,
and what they left, the fire has consumed.’
Job 22:15–20 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)
15 Will you keep to the way of old
that the people of mischief have trod,
16 who were snatched away before their time,
whose foundation was washed away by a current?
17 Those who said to God, ‘Turn away from us,’
and ‘What can Shaddai do to us?’
18 Yet he himself filled up their houses with good things,
but the schemes of the wicked are repugnant to me.
19 The righteous see, and they rejoice,
but the innocent one mocks at them.
20 Surely our foe perishes,
and fire has consumed their remainder.
Job 22:15–20 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)
15 Will you stay on the old path
that sinful people have walked on?
16 They were carried off even before they died.
Their foundations were washed away by a flood.
17 They said to God, ‘Leave us alone!
What can you do to us, you Mighty One?’
18 But he was the one who filled their houses with good things.
So I don’t pay any attention to the advice they give.
19 “Those who do what is right are joyful
when they see sinners destroyed.
Those who haven’t done anything wrong make fun of them.
20 They say, ‘Our enemies are completely destroyed.
Fire has burned up their wealth.’
Job 22:15–20 — New American Standard Bible (1995) (NASB95)
15 “Will you keep to the ancient path
Which wicked men have trod,
16 Who were snatched away before their time,
Whose foundations were washed away by a river?
17 “They said to God, ‘Depart from us!’
And ‘What can the Almighty do to them?’
18 “Yet He filled their houses with good things;
But the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
19 “The righteous see and are glad,
And the innocent mock them,
20 Saying, ‘Truly our adversaries are cut off,
And their abundance the fire has consumed.’
